This update to the post is interesting, because it connects homophobia to racism and imperialism in a way that I hadn't quite considered before. In order to prevent the extinction of "our culture," the decline of "all the social indicators" (percentage of women who work, birth rate, out-of-wedlock birth ratio, and divorce rate) needs to be reversed. Gay couples don't increase the fertility rate.

I've heard the "gay people can't make babies" argument before, but I hadn't quite connected it to the "have babies to save our culture" one.

I'm just going to look at this as an interesting piece of social rhetoric, because otherwise I'll weep for humanity.

I accidentally ended up on a white power forum yesterday. I read a reference about a woman who was raped while in a coma and got pregnant and wanted to find out how she was doing. Somehow my search ended up telling me that baby was born healthy, but she died a year later, and this forum was talking about non-white criminals. I really needed to go puke. As soon as I realized what the site was ( it took me a few seconds because I didn't want to believe it) I wanted to purify my web browser or something.

I like being sheltered.

That site is indescribably horrible, bigoted, and hateful - I'm still hoping that the whole thing is a joke ala Landover Baptist, because I don't want to believe that "people" like that actually exist.

If it makes any difference to anyone, I researched the blog and tried to find ties to Landover Baptist or any other Poe related sites and couldn't find anything...

I don't even have words for how this makes me feel. Every single time I hear the religious right's racist, homophobic, hateful rhetoric I try to believe that it's just coming from a few people and that most people are kind and loving and thoughtful and inclusive. Then I see shiitake like this and it reminds me just how many people feel this way and I lose a little more faith in humanity.

The problem is that I really don't want to lose any more faith in humanity.

I don't think that's genuine.

These people are seriously delusional and need to stop being crassholes immediately.

After reading several other posts on that site, I don't see any reason to think it's not genuine.

I tried to read more of the articles to get a sense of whether it was satire or not but I started reading the anti-Islam post and had to stop.

I really hope this is a parody. At the very least, there is no way that every single poster has the same style of writing and voice, so it's definitely one person or very few people responsible for that whole page.
