My cat Lucia ran away this Saturday. We were out in my in-laws cottage and brought her along. She seemed to have the time of her life, enjoying a bigger house than usual, peering out the windows into the nature and hanging out with the dog we were dog-sitting. In the morning, I took her out on a walk with a leash, and she loved it and everything went well. She then sat by the door for a couple of hours, obviously wanting to go out again so I took her out once more, with the leash. Just 10 minutes later she somehow managed to get out of the leash and ran into the forest. I couldn't catch her and then she was gone. We stayed in the cottage for two more days, put out food on the porch and went calling on her but she didn't come back. We had to leave Monday morning for our work in the city so we havn't been able to be there since then, but we left out a lot of food and a place for her to sleep if she would return. There's not a lot of wild animals that would eat the food so that's OK. There are some houses nearby and we talked to them about calling us if they came to them. I have also reported it to the police (she has a number in her ear). Tomorrow, my in-laws will go out there and live for quite some time, obviously looking for her if she comes back. They will also put up some posters in the nearby village.
This is breaking my heart and I feel unable to cope with it. It's such a pain not knowing what is happening to her, how she is and if I will ever get to see her again. She has been an outside cat before (before she got to the shelter) so she's used to being outside, but that was almost two years ago now.
I have feel like there's no hope I'll see her again, but I can't grief and go one since I DON'T KNOW. This is horrible. All I can think of is her fat soft belly and the kisses she used to give me in the morning and the fact that it might never happen again.

Oh no, pannkakan, my heart is breaking for you reading this! I'm holding out hope for you and Lucia, though. A few of my friends have had cats run off and disappear for several days or even a couple of weeks at a time and then show up again, so don't give up hope. Sending good thoughts and hugs your way.

I'm so, so sorry you're going through this. When I was little, and we moved into a new neighborhood, our cat disappeared for a few days. We were really worried, but he did eventually come home. She may just take a little while to find her way back to the cottage. I hope she makes it back to you really soon!

That's GREAT! I love happy ending animal stories. Too bad she can't tell you where she went! Our first cat went missing once for 3 horrible days. When she came back she reeked of perfume, guess she'd had herself a good time ;-)
