rachell37 wrote: Oh shiitake you guys, I almost forgot. Jus Rol pain au chocolat (fridge section with the other pastry products) seems to be vegan! I had a quick look when I was at Asda the other day, so I might have missed something, but I'm pretty sure I was about to put it in my basket before I realised I still don't have a way to cook it. The plain croissant rolls, I think they are pillsbury though.. tasted okay but they came out tiny, they look like little turds when they came out, and not turds big enough to spread any butter or jam on them. I'll have to try the pain au chocolate :) they were always a bit of a treat! I know its not vegan but I thought I'd have a little rant because of that very reason... the new linda mcartney king prawns... why put whey protein in them? :( Veggie World can make them without any animal so why cant you?

Oh I really want to try the salmon slices but I can't find them listed on redwoods site, or holland and barrett! Our local H&B is quite small, but there's another health food shop I could travel to which apparently stocks some redwoods stuff...

I wish I'd known you didn't know. Mike eats at least a pack a week! The big pack of ... a lot (24? I'm not sure) rather than the wee 6-pack.

AUGH! i just looked at the packet i brought home with me and it says "ALLERGY ADVICE: contains gluten and milk". i'm so sorry; i don't know how i missed that :( there's nothing obviously dairy-derived in the ingredients, so i guess it must be the pesky natural flavouring.

Ack!! That is maddening, ETK! Not your fault though, I missed it too. I have emailed them to find out if they mean possible cross-contamination or if they're actually putting flippin' milk in them. Gah!

Maybe it's just another company being overly cautious about the 'Warning - may be processed in factory with milk products' kinda thing?? Don't worry though. That's just too bad!

What are the blue/purple thingos??
Yeah, I'm wondering if they're just being super cautious with the milk thing, I'm waiting to hear back.

Duncans Deeside shortbread rounds - I think we've only ever seen them in Tesco.

dunno if they've already been mentioned here (i didn't search back far but i don't think they have!), but asda have increased their vegetarian "chosen by you" frozen product range quite substantially and their lemon & herb piri piri quarter pounders are vegan. other stuff in the range may well be too but i didn't check them all out due to spotting these first, reading the ingredients, being very happy with what i saw and legging it to the checkouts! and very tasty they are too. 2 quid for a box of 4; not bad at all.

The abernethy biscuits are not suitable for vegans but vegetarians as the biscuits contain milk. Hope this information helps answer your questions." actually it didn't answer all my questions as I asked, if they do contain milk, why it's not mentioned on the ingredients list proper... Oh well.

I finally got to try Fry's pepper-steak pie. Sweet rollerskating Christ, are they good! I even got an all-crust bit and that was delicious! They blow Linda McCartney pies out of the water. I'm really looking forward to trying the mushroom one.
Has anyone else had problems with Redwood's fish steaks? I loved them when they first came out, but the last two packages I've bought felt like eating a fish-flavoured sponge. They were so bad that I felt compelled to write to them.

The Food Heaven lemon cheesecake is alright. It's not as good as homemade, but it's good enough for cheesecake from the freezer.

According to their (shitty) website, Food Heaven is stocked at Tesco. I've never seen it, though I think I was looking in the wrong place (it's in the freezer section, and I thought it was in the chilled section). They also make tiramisu. I'm gonna have to go out to the giant Tesco an hour away to see if they have that.

Apparently Tesco carry something called Delamere Dairy Soya Shakes, in chocolate and vanilla, that say they're suitable for vegans! I never even would've looked at something with the word "dairy" in the name, so I guess it's the one good thing about trying to find something* on their shitty website.
*I never found what I was looking for.

*I never found what I was looking for. I tried the chocolate one today. It was alright. It was more like thick chocolate milk than a milkshake. If you think of it that way, it was good. If you go into it hoping for anything like a milkshake, you'll be bitterly disappointed.

They didn't feel as flaky and tasted more vinegary, like the hideous cakes.
