Mack the Spork wrote: butterbobbin wrote: Did anyone else find with the plain chocolate chip cookies (first recipe in the book) that they had to add more flour? I followed the instructions very carefully and the dough was way too gloppy to shape until I added another 1/2 cup flour. Even then it was still pretty gooey but I was able to pick it up and roll it at that point. Yes! I wish I'd measured how much flour I added. They were STILL gloopy as dough with extra flour, but then they were kind of dry and... starchy? once they were baked. Not excellent. I've gone back to margarine based recipes, I am a canola CCC fail. I had the same experience with this recipe (I think I've posted about it in this thread, actually). Instead of adding more flour, I reduce the oil to 1/2 cup, and they always come out PERFECT. In fact, this may be my favorite cookie recipe of all time.

I made the brownies. YUMMMMMMYY. i had contemplated making a frosting but they don't really need it. it's just fudgey and gooey on its own. love.

Anybody have any advice on what to do if a page falls out? I don't think the chocolate chip cookie page is going to last much longer.. I guess at this point I basically have it memorized but still.

You can go to your local library and ask them if they do repairs in-house, and if they do can they have book-binding tape :)

Made the Macadamia Ginger & Cowboy cookies tonight. Both were incredible.
The Macadamia Ginger are my new favorite cookie of all time. Definitely use the coconut extract. If you haven't made these yet, you've got to!

I'm planning to try the Espresso Chip Oatmeal Cookies. I wasn't successful on my search for instant espresso powder, though; would very finely ground espresso beans work?
I have instant coffee, but it's really shitty coffee.

Tea, I think finely ground espresso beans would probably work. I usually use Starbucks Via instant coffee when I bake for something that calls for instant coffee.

I always use instant coffee. Maybe they'd be better with the espresso, but it's pretty darn good with the instant.

Cornstarch and arrowroot can be used interchangeably as far as I know.

I just made the chocolate oat cookies with the dried cherries in. (Don't remember the official name of them...) The dough was amazing. The cookies are amazing. I think this is one of the favourites I've made so far from this book.

I made the peanut butter oatmeal cookies last weekend. They went down pretty well! The raw dough is amazing though - I struggled to stop eating it in between baking batches (I only have one oven tray that works for cookies). I had to leave the kitchen.

I have had this trouble with ALL the cookie doughs I've made from this book. Like you, I have only one oven tray. I'm amazed sometimes I have any baked cookies in the end at all.

I forgot the coconut for the chews, (sigh). but I made the cowgirls, and they were AWESOME. I really have to learn how to fully read recipes. I totally forgot to do the cinnamon and cloves. and i mixed it and forgot to ADD THE CHIPS AND NUTS.
Oi.
lol but these were so easy to make Im going to make it again. :)

Soooooooooooooo... anyone have any insight on what the fizzle happened to my chocolate peanut butter pillows? more like, chocolate peanut butter POOPows. Mr. Spork, who is eating them allworking from home today, reports that they are delicious. Which is good, but I find their aesthetic to be a little embarrassing for something I plan to bring to a bbq tomorrow...
