Bleeding Heart is closing-closing. I'd heard they were leaving the Chicago store (their co-owners for that location are keeping it open under a different name), but I didn't know the rest of the stores were shutting down as well. Sad, sad day.

Hi Chicago people! I'm coming to visit your windy (?) city! I'll be there from Aug 28-Sept 5!

Hi choirqueer! No question marks needed, it really is windy. What are you doing in the city? PPK meet up at The Diner, anybody?

Oh, and choirqueer, I really meant "What's your schedule like?" Not "What are you doing in the city? Please tell the anonymous internet all about your business!"

Bleeding Heart says they'll still be around til August 5th, so there's still a little time!

Whoa. Nuts! I feel like I heard rumblings about that kind of thing a while ago. Also, their Book of Faces is gone. Shady.

I have a large bedroom opening up in my awesome Logan Square apartment for September! Vegetable garden and back porch, awesome landlord who lives upstairs, and my other roommate is super cool and rarely home. PM me if interested in more details! :)

Yay! I want to meet up with you too! I forgot that I had posted here so I forgot to come back and check the thread for replies :D I'll be there Aug 28-Sept 4. I am staying with a friend who is also vegan and we definitely want to go to Veggie Diner. When is good for you all? I will confer with friend as well.

I'm coming back to Chicago on Saturday, and I'd be up for a Diner meetup! (Even though this is my first post in months, oops). It depends whether I'm in rehearsal or not, though.

My schedule is so weird, it's usually best if people set something up that works for them, and I try to make it. That said, I'm pretty open in that time period. And yay, TheAmazonProject is back!

I'll be visiting my parents over the Labor Day weekend, Aug. 31 - Sept. 3, but I'd be free for a Diner meetup any of the other days.

Is there anything new food-wise in the last year? My husband and I take an anniversary trip to Chicago once a year and have some favorites, but would love to check out any new places!

Sharky, is all the veg stuff at Yummy Yummy vegan? I used to love eating there as a vegetarian, but I haven't gone since I switched the vegan because I didn't know. You have me very excited now!

You have me very excited now! yeah, they use either wheat gluten or soy gluten for the veg meats, and they don't even use egg in the egg rolls! i don't remember exactly what i've asked them about, but i know it was all ok to eat:) that place is sooo awesome!

I tried a sub from Nhu Lan and thought it was pretty good. I have tried a slice from Dimo's (when it was something else? Ian's?) but I haven't tried any of their new pies yet! They look so bad but so good.
I keep making myself visit Chicago Diner, because I had mixed feelings about it in the past, but I'm pleased with what I've eaten there. Quesadilla La Reyna Del Sur had pretty tasty food, but man, I'm not sure I want to take at least two buses to get home from there!
Does anyone have any recommendations for Urban Vegan other than the orange chicken?

Does vegan ramen exist anywhere in Chicago? I know there is vegan pho, but I've been craving ramen with the change in weather....

My friends and I had Upton's-filled tacos and whatnot from La Cocina last week and they were so good! We went to Quesadilla last year and this was even better.

ifer wrote: Does vegan ramen exist anywhere in Chicago? I know there is vegan pho, but I've been craving ramen with the change in weather.... Whole Foods has little packs of Koyo ramen that appear to be vegan, also Annie Chun's Spring Vegetable ramen that looks vegan. Do you like spicy? You might try Joong Boo Market on Kimball. I think they have a few vegan varieties there. These are just suggestions, as I have a steady supply of vegan ramen from Korea from my aunt. If you were coming to the potluck this Sunday, I'd share some with you! :p
