I'm not terribly sad that she's gone though, and I feel like that makes me a bad person. I'm relieved for her, actually; this ends a 2 year battle with lung cancer. My great grandmother was such a strong and amazing woman, I am glad that to have had her in my life this long, and that my children knew her.

This is also the second grandmother of mine to die this year; my mom's mom died in September of heart failure. I feel a sense of loss/weird emotional relief that they both aren't suffering anymore/sadness. I wish I could have spent this last holiday season with them both.

It's so weird knowing they aren't there anymore. I keep wanting to call them to hear their voices.

PPK, I need hugs.

I'm sorry for your loss. I understand being relived though, I had an aunt who battled lung cancer and I think we all felt relief for her when she passed. I'll be thinking of you and your family.

*HUGS*

Very sorry for both of your losses, but I completely understand the sense of relief that comes along with it. It's always a strange feeling to know that someone is gone, but it's comforting to know they are no longer suffering. I will be thinking of you and your family, hugs!

*hugs* I'm so sorry for your loss. It is hard to lose people, even though it means the end of their suffering. Much love to you

That doesn't make you a bad person at all. Both of my great grandparents lingered in nursing homes and hospitals at the ends of their lives and I was relieved for both of them when they died. My grandmother died of lung cancer and I was very relieved for her when she finally died. I'm sorry for your losses and send you lots of hugs.

I am so sorry for your loss. I don't think it is bad to feel relieved that a long painful struggle with illness is over. I hope she is at peace and that you can carry her love with you always. Sending you lots of virtual hugs.

****Hugs****

I felt the same when my grandma died this summer. I knew I would miss her but I couldn't bear to see her so sick and helpless. It doesn't make you a bad person to feel that way. I think I was more upset when she first went to the hospital than when she passed away. I knew where it was going so to me, she was kind of already gone, even though she was still "here", she really wasn't.

I'm glad your kids got to meet your great-grandmother. Mine died when I was 10-11 but all I remember is how amazing they both were. I wish we could have had grown women talk.

Hugs ahoy! It's definitely not weird to feel that way. My aunt died last year after having cancer of the almost-everything for about three years. It was just brutal, she was in constant pain all the time, was so unhappy and just wasn't the same person that we all knew. It was a massive relief when she passed away. It sounds like you have a great perspective on this, being thankful for what these women gave you and taught you over the years. And that's a great attitude to show to your kids, as well.

I am sorry for your loss.
Your feelings are normal. When my grandmother passed it was after years of battling one thing or another and it was a relief to know she was finally at peace.
Hugs

Thanks you guys. I'm still feeling a little weird emotionally, but better. My son has been having SUCH a hard time dealing with the loss of his great-grandma and now he lost another important woman in his life. The funny thing is, he's been reassuring me that everyone has their time. Such a brave one, he is.

I am so sorry Una.

Its really hard to watch someone that you love die a painful and difficult death.

You are not a bad person-but you are a compassionate one.
