Here's my rundown from my trip:
Spent a day at Stone Brewery in Escondido (I LOVE Stone beer). I got the tempeh shepherd's pie... kinda disappointing :(
Went to OB on Sun, got some bday cake at Stephanies (they didn't seem to have pastries other than cake anymore), had lunch/brunch at the People's Co-op. Pretty good, but we hit right between the breakfast/lunch transition so we missed breakfast stuff and then they put out AWESOME looking lunch stuff after we left. :(
We had dinner at Local Habit (maybe used to be Pizza Fusion?). WOW. That was some damn good food. And beer. Mustardy roasted brussels sprouts!! SO GOOD. And the pizza was so good, I got another one to go (they use Daiya).
I had lunch on Mon at Pokez - tofu chimichanga -- good and waayyyy too much food for me, but I would probably try Ranchos next time.
Thanks again to everyone who made suggestions!

yay sounds awesome! I really need to go to local habit next time. My sister, the biggest daiya hater I know loves it! It did used to be pizza fusion and they had such awesome pizza! That's weird about Stephanie's. I'm not really sure what's up with them. They've always had weird hours, but yeah, the last time I went in there they barely had anything for sale. It's too bad because they make really good stuff. Sounds like a really fun trip!

I keep missing Local Habit because when I am in that area I tend to default to Indian food. Local Habit's beer list is always impressive from what they tweet.
But whoa about the Stone Shepherd's pie. I loved that so so so so so much. I can't wait for there to be a closer Stone location (rumored to be Liberty Station).

Hey guys, i hope it's ok to sorta hijack the thread.... but organic fruit and veggies will help sd stay classy, right? :) Anyway, if you love organic produce and/or if you would like some part time work (for as little as 1-2 hrs a week, or a lot more...it's flexible) please take a look: viewtopic.php?f=34&t=14557

Hey SD people! Even though I tend to get super nervous, I like PPK meet-ups! Would you like to have one? We could go to Local Habit or any other place. It doesn't matter : )

I just went there for the first time. It was pretty great.
Also FYI, Sipz just opened its new North Park location right next to Ranchos

Wow, Sipz near Ranchos in NP? Crazy! Another new place is supposed to open very near there. Casa de Luz. I find Evolution to be very hit-or-miss. Had a horrible milkshake there. Vegan donuts are going to be available on Sundays, apparently at a new bar: Tiger Tiger. http://tigertigertavern.blogspot.com/Edit to add: Local Habit looks great, I was only there once for a tasting thing. I would also be super nervous at a meetup. But, I would try and do it anyway!

Bumping this thread because over the weekend I visited SD and tried a couple of vegan friendly places. The people I was with are not vegan, and don't like going to all veggie restaurants, so I always end up at omni restaurants. Pokez was good. It is not much to look at, but super cheap and tasty. I had the vegan potato enchalidas. YUM. very filling. $3.75. Also got a GIANT 20oz fresh apple/carrot/orange juice. Only $5. My Local Habit: loved this place, very vegan friendly. Had a carmilized onion and tomato pizza with their hommade almond 'cheese' on top. Shared a side of the Mustard Brussel Sprouts also, they were very good. Had some of the orange rice pudding for desert. Oh and lots of yummy beer of course. In fact, My Local Habit is doing an all vegan night, paired with a Bruery Beer, all creole food. Its on their main page http://www.mylocalhabit.com/I don't think I am going to go, but maybe you guys are interested in checking it out. That place was pretty awesome, I reccomend it. Also, the Bruery is really good brewery here in Orange County. Really amazing beer. It is my favorite brewery.

Just moved back to SD, I'm in Normal Heights now! And of course our old hood, north park, seems to have turned into vegan mecca while I was gone.
Anyone here have little ones? I'm thinking of starting a vegan parents meetup--getting tired of having to keep my 12mo out of the jello and Cheezits at play groups and thought I'd try to start my own.
I'd also be game for an sd meetup sometime!

Oooh! I have not! I am now on an official quest. (Also, I haven't noticed the price of draft cider being much different than any craft beer du jour; maybe I should pay more attention?) I have to get my self to Casa de Luz. I can't believe I haven't yet.
