Iam notsure how she might have broken her rib, but there is a hardbuldge on her rib cage that I just noticed. She has a vet appointment for this afternoon. If it isbroken, I have no idea what can be done for it. I am worried.

Maybe it's a swelling, like from a insect sting, or a lipoma lump that you just haven't noticed until now? I think it would be very unlikely that your dog could break a rib without you noticing. The only times I've seen animals with fractured ribs have been when the animal was hit by a car or fell from a high place. The treatment is cage rest and pain meds, unless the break is bad and there is danger of a lung being punctured, and then I think they may do surgery. But it hurts like hell to break ribs, so I think it would be obvious if your dog had.
Good luck at the vet! I hope it's nothing serious.

Well, it is some sort of hard tumor. It is pretty big. We will get some results on what it is at the earliest by Thursday. I think it must be fast growing, because it is a pretty good size and very hard to miss.

That sucks! I'm sorry! On a related note, I find these seemingly seriously hard-ass pokey bits in my dog's side all the time, that sometimes when I feel them freak me out, like it feels like a broken rib! But then she'll shift position and they'll be gone, and I'll never feel it again until something similar but in a different spot. So I never talked to a vet about it because I could never feel it when at the vets. Maybe I should.

Sorry to hear that, Kimba! Good thoughts!
Mars, those are likely the floating ribs, totally normal. The last two ribs are not attached to the sternum, only come off of the spine, so they feel like pokey out-y bits sometimes. No big deal!

I wish it didn't take so long to get biopsy results back. We lost our last dog to cancer and it was very difficult. I think it is bigger today.

Here is Haley after her surgery. She is still kind of sedated. We are waiting on biopsy results to see if they got good margins.

So they didn't get all the margins and she is going to have to have a second surgery with a specialist. Hopefully that will get everything. It looks like she has better odds than our last dog did, at least that's what the cancer vet said. So here's to hope.
