I've been to the Famoso in Edmonton and it was YUMMY. And affordable. I got the pizza that just had tomato sauce, basil and garlic on it and paid $1 to add Daiya. It came to like $9 and was pretty big. The one in Edmonton also has a gelato case with 3-4 non-dairy options that were really good too. I'm looking forward to eating it in Vancouver when I come home for the summer. Another great place for vegans and omnis to eat in harmony :P

Hey guys, I'm coming back to Vancouver in September! And looking for an apartment. If you know of anything, please let me know! I'm hoping for a room (totes fine with roommates) somewhere near Main or the Drive, preferably furnished but we'll see. I probably won't be home much since I'll be working on my thesis... Anyway, let me know if you know of anything!

If anyone was interested in the potential for vegan doughnuts at the new 49th Parallel location on Main please note that they will no longer be making them. The owner, who says he is a strict vegan, is worried about cross-contamination between the apple bacon doughnuts and their short-lived vegan doughnut.
Has anyone ever met a vegan who would only eat from 100% vegan places or even 100% vegetarian places? I've been vegan for around 11-12 years and have never met such a person. Ludicrous stuff. And coming from a vegan himself.

The Acorn is now open. Went for dinner last night. More than half of the menu is or can be vegan. Incredibly gorgeous presentation with a great variety of lovely foods. The vegan dishes are low on the protein front so don't expect to leave too full. But for a delightful summer meal I was quite impressed. Prices are on the high end but I guess when you worked at Noma and you focus on in season local foods you can do that.

Hi Vancouverites. I'm going on a really quick trip to Vancouver on Tuesday to see Fiona Apple. Where should I eat dinner that's near the Orpheum? I don't really want Nuba, and Wild Rice has been ruled out by my friend (sadface). She's vegan but also gluten-free. I kiiiind of want Indian, but I know downtown isn't the best for that, and we only have a bit of time. I do want to be able to have a glass of wine, so food carts are out. Ideas?

If you don't mind spending a bit more Yew is near the Orpheum, has gluten free options and many bottles of wine.

Oh yes! Thanks. I think my friend might veto that due to the cost, but I really want to check it out. Maybe I can convince her. If not, La Taqueria is sounding pretty tempting right now, despite the lack of wine.

The Templeton on Granville? I've had the lentil loaf and it's decent, there are some other items that are easily customizable. It's sad when your dining partner gets to order a milkshake though. It also might be a tough place for the GF crowd.

We went to Nuba after all, and OMG so happy we did! I had the new (to me) vegan dish which is gnocchi-like dumpling with oyster mushrooms, crispy onions, asparagus, sun dried tomatoes, and more...in a lemony garlicky amazing sauce. It was the best meal I've had in ages, and heaps better than even the gnocchi from Portobello. Now if only they could improve their pita bread already!

Sushi Gallery (10th between Alma and Highbury) has a really great selection of vegan sushi. They also have a separate vat of help-yourself vegan miso. It's a little pricier than other sushi, but I'm willing to pay more when I'm not limited to kappa and avocado rolls. If you're in the area, check it out!

You're back! We should try to have a meet-up when Josh is around.
Also, I totally lived at Alma and 12th, and I'm jealous that Sushi Gallery didn't exist then.

You should!
I'd love to meet up with all the Vancouver crew as well. Life (aka my job) is just too unpredictable these days. But if we could do Tuesday or Wednesday thing I could probably be there!

We've now got our second vegetarian Vietnamese restaurant. It's a couple of stores South of Sweet Cherubim on the Drive. I can't remember the name of the place but you can't miss it if you're on the Drive and near Sweet C's.

Whoa. Exciting. Did it take the place of Taiyo Sushi by any chance? They seem to have just up and disappeared in the night (which is tragic!).

Vancouver! If you're around this Saturday, you should go and see my super cute brother's band, The Boyfriends, play at Pride! Extra super bonus: The Boyfriends are a vegan band! https://www.facebook.com/events/363622667042511/

I am extremely sad to have discovered that Everybody Loves Veggies has closed. Does anyone know how to get in touch with them?
