It's going to be in October again, so obviously you have plenty of time to get ready and pick your theme. Sign up forms and what not won't be up for awhile, but I just wanted people to know that it's the same month again! Next year we will try to have it in September so we can change up the holidays/produce/etc., but I personally forgot about impending MoFo season until two weeks ago and that would've been a huge rush for that.

Now I have to think about themes! Oh dear. Last year's 'whatever I'm eating' didn't really work so well.

Last year's pumpkin theme worked out really well because I looked up a bunch of pumpkin recipes in advance to prepare. Ooh maybe I'll do a bunch of rice and bean recipes since I'm a) inspired by the rice and beans thread and b) trying to keep spending low

Yay! I'm considering veganizing a recipe a day from this Asian cookbook of my mom's that she used to cook from when I was a kid but can't decide if that's going to be way too much work or not.

Hmmm, I might do a recipe a day with chickpeas. I rarely get sick of them and I imagine if I got bored I could just make a whole ton of french toast in different ways or something.

I had so much fun last year! I tried a theme but couldn't stick with it and it just kind of turned into "what vegan stuff did I do this week". But! According to my blog stats vegan cake pops and vegan meringue cookies were/are my most popular posts ever so maybe I will do a theme related to that? I can't imagine a month of cake pops or meringue, but who knows!

I'm glad you mention it because I missed out on the fun last year & the year before (somehow I keep thinking it's in November). A post a day will be hard but now there's time to prepare! When I've thought of a theme, that is... Is having a central theme 'compulsory' or does it just make it easier to hang in there?

I didn't participate last year, but this year I'm seriously considering doing a month of Buffy-themed food/menus. Or I may expand it to all of the Whedonverse.

Most people don't do one, but I think it makes it more fun. It's totally optional.

Oooh, perhaps in tribute to Supernatural, I could just do a 'diner food' theme that even Dean Winchester would approve of. The mythical tofu burger and everything.

Might do film related foods? Thn I can cheat and make up strange names for foods that are loosely related to a film/film title :P

Never heard of it until I joined here but I will give it a lash. Would be way more interesting than doing college work.
If I go with a theme it will probably be potatoes. I'm Irish so I'm genetically engineered to be a spud head.

I've been thinking about having Sundays be brunch, with the requirement that it must have at least a pastry* and a green smoothie. Beyond that, I'm hammering out general daily or weekly things—and trying to think of something to do beyond cooking from neglected cookbooks. *Corn muffins, strudel, cinnamon buns… stop calling me pastries and all that. Because I'm ridiculous.

And I was surprised to find that the theme actually made it easier for me.

Thanks for the replies - I will try to think of a theme because 'fun' and 'easier' sound good. :) But inspiration isn't coming yet, not even after the fab ideas mentioned here! Thankfully there's still plenty of time.
Looking forward to the potato veganmofo & Buffy's. ;)

I'm getting so excited I have already been overeating on potatoes. If I keep going this way I'm going to be on a diet by the time MoFo arrives.

I think I'm doing "Using ingredients I have bought but never used". I bet I can easily find a month of them.
Last year Tami and I went halves on a Mofo theme and cooked a recipe from Horizons cookbooks each day. That was a really good way to do it for anyone who worries they can't commit to the whole month.

Ooh, I always miss MoFo! Maybe I'll finally get on board. And for a theme, maybe I'll just chronicle what the baby's eating?
