I thought it was hilarious even with the subtext of let's just never care about anything.

Ha! I ate something made with white flour today. Twice! Ignore the nuts, vegetables and tempeh that went with that. I will definitely die. At some point. You may want to skip reading the comments at the bottom if you don't want to read about the best ways to prep dead animal. I guess its a relative term. To me its anything I cant recreat in my own kitchen from what I can buy at the store.
I love tofutti cream cheese, but theres some weird shiitake in there.
Thats not to say I dont partake from time to time, I just minimize it and choose to make my own versions of such things as needed.

Tofu is processed. Apple sauce is processed. Peanut butter is processed. Granola is processed. EVOO is processed. Maple syrup is processed. Organic whole wheat spelt flour is processed.
Hell, I have a food processor on my kitchen counter! It doesn't turn healthy food into hydrogenated cholesterol chunks. It just chops things up really fast.

When people say processed food, I think they're thinking of Froot Loops. There needs to be a better term for crappy packaged convenience stuff made out of ingredients but not exactly food.

The term "processed" is about as meaningful as the advice to avoid anything with ingredients that sound "unfamiliar". A listing all the components found in a given "natural" food product would probably sound equally strange to the average consumer. I caused a Maillard reaction in my kitchen today!
I would say that the macro nutrients in a given food and what else you're eating it with are key, not the processing it may or may not have undergone. I'm usually not going to eat a serving of white rice without a decent portion of vegetables and protein.

Yeah...junk food probably covers it more, but its all semantics anyways. I guess I should say I like to keep things to the minimal amount of ingredients
I dont really give a shiitake if people want to live off taco bell bean burritos and tofurky pizzas though. Its their body

That was a funny article, but I made the mistake of reading the first few comments. I know it's speciesist but it seems so much worse for people to eat cute animals like bunnies, lambs, and ducks.

Even that gets tricky. . . like, most people would probably deem potato chips and Fritos as "junk food," but I would consider them to be more "real food" (for lack of a better term) than Froot Loops because the ingredients are just potatoes or corn, oil, and salt (whereas Froot Loops contain a bunch of dyes and preservatives).

I still think the number of ingredients or whether they happen to grow somewhere doesn't necessarily tell you much about potential health effects. You could isolate lots of different components from a potato. Interestingly, just looked at the ingredient lists for Froot Loops in the US and Germany, and the German version only uses dyes derived from plants, presumably due to consumer demand. The most important difference that I can spot is that they are a bit lower in sugar.

haha! (except for the fact that kale is actually super low in oxalic acid.)

Baking soda, agar, and citric acid all have E numbers. But somehow people have this idea that anything with an E number is "unnatural" and harmful.

oxygen has an E-number!
I swear, i HATE this obsession about "healthy food". someone once said to me "if eating was that hard, we'd all be dead by now". that's my motto. now i will go eat my delicious white baguette with pesto and not feel guilty. and then i will drink a few beers and be happy! i heard happiness makes you live longer you see, and i really think it's the best way to prolong your life span.

I told a someone that was at my house, while we were eating hummus that I made earlier that day, that I tried to stay away from processed foods. He was like "but you make this in your food processer!"
I was polite and tried to explain. My partner was not. He laughed in his face. then tweeted it.
