Hey all!
I've been vegan for all of 4 weeks. Just learned all of these things (you know what Im talking about)-So weird that I never knew what happened to my "food/animals" before- was I just ignoring it? Rationalizing it?
Why does everyone want to give me crepe for not eating meat BTW? My DH (who is seriously trying to deal with this) and my son, and my friends think I NEED to eat meat. Im not trying to force this down anyone elses throat. Why is my life decision so important to other folks? Not like Im Ghandi starving or anything. Is being a carnivore so ingrained into the american culture that being otherwise is anti-american? what the fizzle??

Oh- and BTW- Totall foodie who is lovin her vegan journey!

Hello! I'm a self-professed foodie who has been veggie-curious for a long time. I was vegetarian for 2 years and vegan for 1 year when I was a teenager. I made all the silly, classic mistakes new young vegans make despite reading tons of literature on the subject (including The China Study). Every time I tried to change my diet again (which was never in progressive steps but all at once), I ended up failing. I blamed the diet for my fatigue and anemia.

Now that I'm a runner, proper nutrition is of utmost importance to fuel my workouts. I unconsciously started transitioning to a meatless diet when I started running because I found meat was just too heavy on my stomach. I'm currently a pescetarian, but ultimately I would like to make the full transition to vegetarianism/veganism for health reasons as well as environmental reasons.

All that aside... I guess I'm looking for a supportive network of healthy, happy vegans to help me on my journey. :) G'day to you all.

I'm Caz, I've never had tater tots!! I live in Canterbury, England, and don't know any other vegans in the flesh! I have 2 bunnies, love baking and cooking, and vintage shopping :) I've been on and off vegan for years, but have now made the decision to be vegan for life! Looking for friends and support I guess! Talk to me! :)

Hi all,

I'm Jennifer. I've been a vegetarian for several years but have just started going vegan. I'm from the Detroit area. I'm not a huge tator tot fan but I do seem to have developed a nooch addiction so I hope that qualifies me for membership here. Black beans and nooch wrapped up in a tortilla, yum. I've been lurking for a bit and have already found invaluable info (all the recommendations for "Vegan for Life" for one, which really was an excellent book) so thanks!

Hi all, I'm vegcasserole, from Leicester, England. I've been a vegan for 8 months and have been lurking in this forum for nearly as long. I've suddenly decided to register because I've just bought 500 vegan recipes, vegan sandwiches save the day, vegan substitutes, and hearty meals for monster appetites all in one day, and I can't conceal how excited I am. That is super over-indulgent of me, I know, but it was all based on the reviews on this board and I splurged. That's my excuse and I'm sticking with it.

My hubby is a sometimes vegetarian and my kids are omni's but will sometimes dabble in my vegan meals.

I have all of Isa's books so far and a handful of other vegan cookbooks. Addicted to cookbooks much? Nah!

Hi! My name is Erica and I've been vegan for about 6 years and veg*n for nearly 15! I am an Urban Horticulture (that means plants!) and Sustainability student in Tempe, Arizona and I love gardening on my tiny patio. I'm actively seeking out new ways to grow food with limited spaces and blog about that on my blog (CultofKale.com)

Before I lived out here, my husband and I lived in Upstate NY where he worked at Woodstock Farm Animal Sanctuary. I met Isa there when she cooked for ThanksLiving and she won me over with those amazing Chickpea Patties and the best stuffing I've ever had. We literally went out and bought Veganomicon and other books the next day.

I used to frequent the Vegan Porn forums, but those have been dead for years and I just never got around to finding another vegan-online outlet. I'm glad I jumped in with the forums here!

Hi ppk :)
I used to be on here every day for ages, and have not been here for aobut 2 years now. boring story even more boring: flirted with veg*n-ism for a bit, then fell off that proverbial waggon as well and lived as an omni for a while (don't hate me!). Now I've decided to make a concious effort to get back on the vegan track, so even if I'm not *really* a newbie, I sure feel like one, bc my vegan cooking skills have been left to wilt for a bit...

What got me interested again was spending a lot of time volunteering in anarchist spaces where food is always vegan, and it just makes my body feel light and alive in a way omni-food does not. So I'm gonna do my best to stick with cooking vegan for at least a month, and see how things go. Fingers crossed it'll be a joyful experience!

Hello! I'm Carol.

I'm from Alberta, but hoping to move to BC next year. I've been vegetarian for the majority of the last 10 years, and vegan-curious which brought me here! (though I have to hide it from my mom, who will have a heart attack if she finds out I stopped consuming large amounts of dairy)
OH and I'm in medical school! so I have the added challenge of very limited time. And I'm a runner!

Hi! I live in San Francisco now, but I was born and raised in Edmonton! Be sure to check out the Canada forum in the Square. There are some great resources there in terms of where to eat and where to find vegan things in Edmonton and Calgary (I'm guessing you're in one of the two since you're in med school).

I'm not 100% new either -how come I had never notice this discussion!?

in short: I've been vegan for 2 years and I'm always happy to discuss about "more than food/whatever"; because, it fascinates me when people realize they share ideas and values even though they were born in opposite places, speak different languages etc. I do think that compassion is universal (hippiehaters: watch out, run away while you can)

(please: since english is not my first language please don't feel offended if you ever read awkward stuff from me!!!!! I do misuse words quite often!) (Oh and I understood most of you are native speakers so your help is of course more than welcome)

Hello. I need to Google tater tots, I have never heard of them (is it a vegan phrase? I'm new new new to all this).. For health reasons, I have decided to give veganism a twirl. Let's see how I go. I love to cook, so that's a good start!

Salutations to all! Cayla is the name! I have known about PPK for quite some time now; I cannot believe it took me this long to click the 'forum' button! haha, anywho...I am eighteen years old. I became a vegetarian when I was sixteen, and I switched to veganism ten months ago! I have many different interests such as animals and nature, classic films, running, and much more! It is very nice to meet you all! :)

Hello all!
So glad to find this place. I'm a brand new vegan and live in San Francisco. I've always leaned towards vegetarianism, and consider myself an adventurous eater. With our current drought conditions in so many parts of the country, I've been thinking about how raising and consuming animals is really so wasteful. The health benefits stick with me too, since I'm in my early fifties.

I'm looking forward learning lots! Thanks for being here!

Hello everyone!
My real name is Susan and I'm from Scotland :)
I was veggie / piscetarian (sp?) for about ten years and have been vegan for a year now. I never really cooked in the past but since going vegan I've been kind of forced into the kitchen and finally really enjoy it.

I just found this forum today while searching for something else :)

Hi, I'm new and I don't want to be deleted.

I've been vegan for years (for ethical reasons), but I'm the lone vegan in my family and my circle of friends. There isn't even a vegetarian in sight. So, yeah, I'm kinda lonely when it comes to vegany stuff, and I have to bite my tongue alot. As I get older I'm finding myself less and less tolerant of the non-vegans in my world, which isn't really a good thing since I don't see me getting new parents or trading in my husband any time soon. So I thought I'd better find a vegan refuge and bask in their collective warmth.

:)

Hi! New and don't want to be deleted. :)

I stumbled across this site looking for a good tofu buffalo wing recipe and was very impressed. I love sharing recipes with others, totally into food porn, and love to eat! I'm a Vegetarian over five years, Vegan about two. My personal challenges lately are making vegan dishes that taste so good, my meat eater friends don't even realize what happening.

Tater tots are fine. I just don't do much in the potato department.
