So one week ago today I was in the middle of moving and my seemingly healthy dog was sitting in the front seat of the car next to me and she died. She stood up, twitched and fell down and that was it. I called 911 and they helped me find a vet and even called the vet ahead but it was too late. The vet thinks that she was born with some kind of problem and said there was nothing I could have done, but I still feel guilty, like I could have/should have done more. Every time I think about her I lose my shiitake totally and I'm glad she was in the front seat with me instead of in back with the kiddo when she died and I was petting her and talking to her right before it happened. Tilly was 2 1/2 and she was an amazing dog. When she was about 6 months old the kiddo and I were in her room playing with toys. Tilly came over and started chewing one of the kid's toys but I said no and Tilly went into the living room and came back with one of her own toys to chew while we played. She knew what every one wanted most with her (snuggling with me and the kid, letting the kid read her stories, wrestling with my husband) and I've never loved a dog more.

Awwwww Tilly was such a lovely and loved pup! I am so very sorry for your loss. It sounds like you did everything you could, and like it was just enormously traumatic.
We were lucky enough to meet you with her, shortly before she passed, I believe, and I would never have thought that there was anything that was wrong with her at all. There were no signs that she was in distress or otherwise ill. I don't know if that makes you feel less guilty, but I hope it does.
She had a wonderful life and was a very lucky pug to have so much love in it and to get to hang out with you and Livi, two wonderful people.

I am so sorry. That must have been very traumatic to witness. Sometimes these things just happen, and it's terrible and so so wrong, but there's absolutely nothing you can do. It is 100% not your fault. I'm sure Tilly loved you very much and had a happy life while she was with you. Hugs to you and your family.

thx thx. and yeah, the kiddo has random bouts of sobbing her poor eyes out talking about how it wasn't fair and tilly was supposed to live til she was 12 and all I can do is sob and agree.
