Decided to go slow and see how far I could go. Got to 8k in one hour. Coulda kept going but I didn't want to make the 10k I signed up for seem less exciting.

Been away at a friends house for the weekend. I got up early Saturday & Sunday & ran on the river path behind her house. It was lovely running somewhere new & it was a great way to explore the area.

I also went & tried some trail shoes on.
Do any of you have any advice on trail shoes? Are they worth getting or do you just stick with your usual trainers? How many pairs of running shoes do you have?

I really want a pair of proper trail running shoes. Thus far I have just done trail runs in my older regular shoes (when I get a new pair I keep the old ones for trail runs so I can hose them off or pitch them as I see fit.) Right now I have 4 pair: my current ones, my old ones, super cool racing flats, and a cheapo pair I bought for the gym because they were cute. Those are technically trail shoes but they're rated really poorly for that purpose and I have never run in them.

I just run trails in my regular running shoes. I don't go trail running all that often. If I did it more perhaps I'd look into trail-specific shoes.

Ugh, went for my first run post-marathon this morning. It was only 2.3 miles and it was so difficult! It's been 9 days so I thought I was recovered. Guess not. Oh well, I'll give it some more time and ease back into it slowly.

i had a really nice outside run today! i realize i have so much weird mental BS involved with my running that it sometimes is comic. I know I can run at least 9k, because I've done it. Yet I'm sure I can't do it outside. I feel like the Monk of running.
I decided to tweak things a bit so i would have to run, there would be no point in giving up and going home early (which is happening a lot lately, even in the gym). I parked 2k from the park, then ran 4k in the park, then back to my car. Told myself I could go as slow as I wanted to but that was today's course. I did just fine, enjoyed myself, and didn't have to worry about my car getting stolen.

I have a pair that are from a specialist running shop which I use for the treadmill, a pair which I use for running outside, which are getting a little grim due to beach runs and then a pair I have bought (to replace the grim pair) for exercise classes and teaching PE at school.

I'm running more outside now & I fell when I went on the path near my house so I wondered if trail shoes would help. Maybe I'm just too into buying exercise equipment!

8k in one hour again.

Also, 5k in 28 minutes on Tuesday! Last Friday I went on a really short really slow run with a friend who is a beginner (more than me, anyway).

Hey! I am kinda a runner and just finished up my morning run before my two kiddos wake up. I am a treadmill runner since I need to be in the house while the kids are sleeping, but I did 36 minutes of running. I know if I was outside I would cover more distance then the 3.5 miles my treadmill said. I ran a 5k pushing a double jogging stroller in May and ran it in 27 minutes. I am training for the Swampfoot 4-mile run/obstacle course.

I finally am starting to feel like I can say "I run" as I can finally make it 3+ miles without stopping/walking/jogging. Still not super speedy, but not bad for someone who could never even run the required mile in grade school (my best time was a little over 14 minutes in 12th grade when I realized that if I just walked "really fast" I would expend less energy at the beginning causing less of a lag later on). I ran for 40 minutes the other day when I was visit Blacksburg, VA (hills galore). I mapped my run when I got home at it was about 3.7 miles. Personally, not bad at all.

I felt off today, so 5k in 29 and a half minutes. It's pretty cool that even on a day when I feel slower than usual I'm still faster than I was a month ago,

Eight miles today! It was awesome. Long runs are probably my favorite workout.

Got myself a 15k trail run to look forward to in october out in the Lake District in the UK. Can't wait. In response to the posts on shoes, I run in dry conditions in Vibram Fivefingers KSOs and for wet, muddy trails I have a pair of Vivobarefoot Breathos. I chuck in a weekly 1.5k run totally barefoot to condition my feet.

Just did my first post-injury run. Just 40 minutes of running for one song and walking for one, to test out my calf. So far, so good.

Hello all! I am a beginner runner! I started a month ago but fell off the band wagon while in the process of moving. I finally started to run again this past week and I must say, I have missed it! I am not very good at it (yet,) and I usually only run for a minute and then walk and keep alternating. I am now starting to try to run for a longer amount of time and yesterday, I ran for fifteen minutes without stopping. It probably doesn't seem like much, but I am very proud of myself haha. My goal is to complete a marathon sometime in 2013! :)

Congrats Invictus on coming back from your injury!
Cayla congrats on your progress - I think a marathon in 2013 is definitely doable!

Everyone else is doing great too! I love this thread, it's full of such fuzzy running vibes. :)

Thank you! I quite like this thread too!
I just came back from my evening walk/run, and I ran one mile in nine minutes. I'm quite proud of that considering a month ago I couldn't even run for one minute without getting out of breath! haha :)

I am joining you guys! I have been walking a ton since January and have pretty much plateaued in my fitness/weight loss and I want more! It's been hot and I haven't felt like walking my usual 3-6 miles a day so I started to try jogging this week. Today was my second "run" I am doing the walk/jog thing and today I ran about 1.25 miles and walked .75, Monday was a mile each. I am not training for anything yet, just trying to get in better shape. I am hoping to learn some tips from you guys and read about everyone's journey. P-cookie has been a huge inspiration!

Yay Little Bear.
Invictus I hope your return to running goes smoothly.

I have been away & managed to run twice in 2 different towns. At one point I ended up racing with a man in an electric wheel chair who passed me shouting, "Well done, your running faster than 6 miles an hour, keep it up!"
