My husband and I are (hopefully) graduating soon from our PhD programs and we are looking for jobs in Portland! I'm a chemist, he's an astronomer who is willing to go into the tech industry. Problem is, it doesn't seem like there are a lot of pharma/biotech lab jobs, which is what I'm qualified to do. I know Nike and Intel are near Portland...anyone have a connection to someone working there? Or really any R&D company that has a chemistry division?
I also saw a few jobs in Eugene. Any opinions on what it's like there?
Many many thanks in advance!

OHSU is one of Portland's largest employer, would they have the sorts of jobs you're looking for?
Move here! That would be awesome!

I guess I have a pretty big connection to someone who works at Intel, but the business development part, not the sciency part...

I will look into OHSU, thanks! I think they are more biology-based, which I'm not really qualified for. But it really helps to hear from residents who know more about local industry than I can find through internet searches.
I was thinking maybe there were some industrial post-docs at Intel or Nike but it is really hard to find information and I don't have any connections! It would be great to talk to someone who works in the process division and see what kind of people they are looking for.
I haven't talked to my advisor yet - he will probably have some leads for me but I wanted to do some preliminary research before I have that conversation.

My friend works in the chem lab at NW Natural Products, across the river in Vancouver. I know there's a couple more vitamin companies in Vancouver, maybe check them out?
