I'm not as excited about it as I used to be, but I'm still totally in love with this show. I didn't even realize people weren't so happy with it until this thread. Derp.

Yikes, that really was a terrible episode. After catching up on Modern Family and The Office last night, I'm really happy that Mad Men is still amazing or I might have thrown my TV out the window.

The only slightly funny bit was the Phyllis rain comment thing. And that was sad-funny. I don't understand why Robert California was in any scenes at all.

I actually liked this episode. I thought the Kelly/ desperate-obsessive-Ryan/ pediatrician-whose-name-I-forget love triangle plotline was hilarious, but I wasn't crazy about the whole Andy impotence plotline.

Thoughts on the season finale? The episode itself was a mess (what the fizzle Andy?), but there were some good points: the return of David Wallace, the demise of Sabre, and the departure of Robert California. All good things, and all things that signal a return to the way things used to be, before the show started to suck. I also was happy to see Dwight and Angela kiss at the end - I didn't think I cared about their relationship anymore, but it was nice to see them together again.

I don't understand why they're keeping Nellie, though. What's the point?

i liked gabe trying to give himself a birthday party and the appearance of mose.

i really hate andy now. it doesn't matter how terrible a person he is, he still gets his job and girlfriend back. the current version of nellie is actually likable compared to him.

nothing about this finale made any sense. david wallace spends all his money to buy back a crappy, failing company that he was already fired from for running into the ground? and he gives a million dollars to a stranger? and he makes andy manager even though he acted like a crazy person? i'm hoping that the writers realized just how bad this season got and tried to slap together a finale that erased a lot of what happened during it.

This is my suspicion. Nothing made sense but I'm glad Sabre and Robert California is gone and David Wallace is back.

I actually really did miss David Wallace, he reminds me of a few bosses I've had before. I think that's part of the reason why The Office hasn't been so good, because the first few seasons had a lot of things that I could relate to.

Sounds about right. Half a season to wrap things up before they finally end the show. I hope Michael comes back for the series finale. He has to, right?

I'll see it out to the end! I agree with what's already been said. This episode did have more going for it than most of the recent ones.

apparently they finally realized how much the show has gone down hill and are getting rid of it.
i will miss what it once was

"The Office's executive producer Greg Daniels officially announces that Season 9, premiering Sept. 20th, will be its last."

have you guys read a description of that spin-off? it's joey 2.0!

the show's going to be dwight running a b&b with...
Quote:
Dwight's previously never-before-glimpsed-nor-mentioned brother Jeb and sister Fannie, the former an affable layabout who hunts Bigfoot and grows pot, and the latter a "pseudo-intellectual lefty” urbanite; Fannie's son Cameron, the precocious 9-year-old who takes to Dwight as a father figure and no doubt provides much of the show's heart, as that is what kids on sitcoms are for; and Dwight's German great uncle Heinrich Mannheim, who appears to be a former Nazi

YES to all of this. We recently started watching the show and marathon'd all the seasons but it reh-heally started to suck towards the end of S7 and most of S8. I thought I was done but I am hoping the new season is better.

I'm okay with the new characters. They already shipped off Mindy Kaling and BJ Novak. They're very clearly preparing for the end, what with Jim taking some sports job, and Jim and Pam actually addressing the documentary crew.

i wonder why BJ Novak is not acting anymore? i wasnt paying attention but i assume he's still one of the writers.

definitely had a "cleaning house" type of vibe.

im glad there will be a happy ending for Jim and Pam (i assume) cause at first when she was like "there will never be anyting interesting in our life for a loooong time" i was worried they were trying to foreshadow problems with them.
dont break up Jim and Pam!!! there will be riots in the streets!

i did like Dwight Jr i thought he was funny and he looks familiar. i think he's been in a bunch of other stuff?
Jim Jr i have already forgotten most of his role on that episode.

greg daniels wrote and directed this first episode, so you're definitely right about that. i think he's paying a little more attention to the show now that it's ending, which will hopefully be a good thing.
