You've all heard me complain about my breakup enough so I'm sure you all know I'm now living the single life! Well, I've always wanted a cat, but when I was a kid I could never have one, my Mom is quite allergic. Then I moved out of the house but was busy enough with school and having a dog in a new city, getting a cat didn't cross my mind. Then I met my ex, and we moved in with one another fast, and he's quite allergic, so I had really just consigned myself to never having a cat. I mean, I didn't even really think much about it, having never lived with one, it just never felt like a thing that happens... Well, I just realized, now that I'm single... I could totally get a cat! What do you think? I'm a little concerned with my laziness and how that correlates to a litter box. I rarely pick up the dog shiitake in my backyard, but it doesn't make my house smell if it gets too messy... I'm sure other than that I would be a fine cat parent, I mean, I'm already a dog parent so I have the whole responsibility thing down.
This might be a little too hopeful thinking, because it's possible my dog will hate a cat friend. But... I don't know, I think she'll be into it if the cat is.
Hrmmmmmm.....

Hey Mars, how about giving fostering a try? Rescues are always in need of compassionate people to foster kittens and cats, and that would give you a great opportunity to sort of test drive having a cat, see how your dog is around cats, and see if you enjoy the responsibilities and companionship of a cat. I scoop two litterboxes once a day, it's not bad at all, takes less than five minutes total, including a thorough hand washing. Break-ups can be rough, but it's kind of nice getting to do things and think about things that you couldn't before, isn't it? :)

I am pro-cat. And I'm probably adopting a new one two weeks from now, oh my god, we should adopt cats together! CATS!

I'm with dakini; you should try fostering! :) I hope your dog likes cats so you can adopt one!

I make sure I have the litterbox in the bathroom and have an open-topped (but high-sided) one. This works well for me for keeping it clean! Small plug for awesome cats that I have met: if you're interested, there are two awesome kitties being fostered at Healthy Pet on Boone's Ferry in Lake Oswego. There's Fievel, who is an awesome nine-month old white kitty with a few spots. He just needs someone to work with him to be a little more gentle. There's also Pocket, who is female, three, round, opinionated, and awesome.

Cute! I'm thinking adult cat though... I don't know, now that I said it out loud I feel like I'm stressing about it.

http://www.petfinder.com/petdetail/23283335Get this one because I want to cuddle her. (Or if you're feeling stressed about it...you can wait and see what you think, there will always be more cats. But getting a cat post-break-up is great!)

Pocket is three and she's an adorable round grey tabby! If I didn't have a divacat already she would def be my divacat. /endpitch.
Cats are so easy. I think you might really enjoy fostering/adopting.

(Or if you're feeling stressed about it...you can wait and see what you think, there will always be more cats. But getting a cat post-break-up is great!) Haha, yeah she's so cute! It seems in the description she might be needing to be adopted with her mom though. Honestly this would be a much easier decision if my roommate/bestest friend was into it. But crazily enough, she kind of hates cats. I feel like if I got a more outgoing, never-bitchy cat though she'd come around.

THIS ONE! http://www.petfinder.com/petdetail/18593959He's not outgoing but he doesn't seem bisque-y. Also, that is so much cat. Also, looking at cats on the internet is my number one hobby, obviously.

hmm... an outgoing, friendly cat can also be a loud, annoying, in-your-face cat. i have one cat that everyone loves. he greets them at the door, wants to be petted and played with, is generally not the typical stereotype of a cat... so non-cat people often find him very charming and personable when they visit.
but OMG he can be a pain in the butt. he wants to be ON you, or NEXT to you, WHY haven't you fed me yet, WHAT are you doing in there with the door closed, OH, were you reading that? etc etc. someone who was not a cat/pet person would eventually get annoyed by that much interaction.
my other cat is so shy that the average visitor doesn't get to even see her. she's skittish and not super fond of most people. but she's nice to have around, wants to cuddle occasionally, and looks very pretty all curled up on the furniture. if you weren't interested in paying attention to her, i doubt you would ever notice her presence. it can be a worthwhile trait to have in a roommate situation, i think. and the nice quiet older lady cats often languish in shelters, too.

My cat is not easy at all, she is a ton of work, and she is kneading my keyboard right now and it's hard to type. Also I just went to the bathroom and she insisted on sitting on my lap while I peed. But she is the best even though I can't get any work done at home and also she has violent outbursts. But she's so pretty!

Screen all future love interests through the cat if the cat hates them or vice versa they need to go. As for the litter box you might want to try the Breeze litter system. It's very easy to maintain and the litter only weighs one lb so it's easy to carry. I switched to it out of need to save my back and better observe my older cats litter box habits. If the cat you get is not a kitten you will need to give the cat lots of time to switch over and get used to it. I gave my senior cats about 3 months.

I'm definitely going to. I'm going to wait a bit though I've decided, there's so much change in my life all at once right now, so I'm going to wait until it's all more calm and normal. But I'm totally going to. I'm thoroughly convinced. I kind of want a persian... I mean, can you imagine having both a pekingese and a persian?! DOS SQUISHY FACE!

I am really disappointed that you did not adopt Reba in time and now her adoption is pending.
Yes I am apparently really emotionally invested in your future cat.

I can't believe you went on a date and missed your chance to adopt the best cat ever.
