I would definitely put that on my baby if I had a baby!

Thanks maygles and CQ! Showed the pic to a friend and fellow knitter, and she said, "Totally not a parrot! More like happy rainbow baby!" So maybe I'm just being overly (self-)critical. Halfway done sewing everything up!

First ever nicely-made dress. Simple and super comfortable because of the elastic on the waist (mostly made that way because I despise sewing in zippers).

Phoenix, I love the sweater and would totally put my baby in it!
I am working on a shawl. We were traveling last week and I actually got to knit...now to find time at home to knit and finish this up!

What a relief - I sewed everything up and took sligthly better pictures of both the front and back sides, and slowly I'm beginning to think that that baby poncho actually looks nice:

I have to admit that the best part was realizing that a cute pointed hood is the easiest thing to make! It's just picking up the stitches around the neckline, doing a round of increases, then knitting a mindless rectangle and sewing up the upper edge. Mind = officially blown. I think I might want hoods on all my sweaters now.

My friends keep having babies! How big do you think a baby blanket should be?

First vintage pattern attempt! Apron and matching potholder (awkward faaaace and gym clothing) Closeup of button I got at the Oakland Fiber and Textile Festival Fabric is vintage cotton I got in PDX, bias tape was bought cheap at Daiso, heat-resistant batting was left over from my ironing board project! Pattern is McCall's 7561 from 1964, got it at the Alameda Antiques Fair a few months ago. It's an awesome pattern, there's actually four different aprons you can make, if you can find it on Etsy I recommend picking it up! I've never made a potholder before...it was actually kind of hard. I suck at doing anything with bias binding (don't look too closely at my shiitake job on the apron closeup).

I've never done it but had this recommended: http://verypink.com/2011/08/31/brioche-stitch/It was grey and overcast here today, so we watched the Olympics and I made a laptop sleeve! I absolutely love love love this Kokka fabric, it was an impulse purchase yesterday and I kind of want to go back and buy the whole thing. It's lined! (With fabric purchased for 50 cents at Scrap in PDX.)

couroupita wrote: So cool, maygles! What did you use for padding? I used cotton batting (I think it was this: http://www.connectingthreads.com/tools/ ... otton.html but I got it at Verb so not sure), two layers of it for each side (so 4 pieces total).

Knitters, my grandmother gives me a magazine subscription as a birthday present every year. I currently get KnitSimple (someone got me a subscription, but I'm not sure who and I don't *think* it was her) and backpacker (I think my grandmother) and I'd like to switch my not-useful backpacker magazine to a different knitting magazine. Any suggestions? The only other one I can think of is Vogue Knitting but I think them and Knitsimple are related...

Sewing makes me angry. I just started a week ago. And by just started, I mean, the first time I ever touched a sewing machine. My mom bought me a machine, a pattern, and some material, so I made this thing: Now I'm making thing for a baby to wear for my sister-in-law's kid that should be arriving any day now. Did I mention how angry sewing makes me?

There's a cute matching hat that I didn't photograph. Oh, and we got a call that she was going into labor like right as I finished this thing. Convenient!
