i'm so, so sorry. please try not to blame yourself. i know it's hard; my cat had a stroke last summer four days after her annual physical, and the vet had already called with her bloodwork results and said everything was great, so there's no reason to think anyone could have predicted it, but i still wanted to beat myself up for not noticing something or taking better care of her or whatever. but sometimes things really do go suddenly, terribly wrong, and no one could ever have known, and no one bears any blame. tilly clearly knew she was loved, and if you can take any comfort in it at all, as unfair and painful as the loss is, it sounds like she went very quickly and didn't suffer.

So sorry about Tilly. It's terrible you had to see that, but it sounds like she got a lot of love in her short life.

oh appi! i'm so, so terribly sorry. tilly was very lucky to live with such a loving family, and i hope that the happy memories crowd out the sadness sometime soon. <3

thanks everyone. i requested a bunch of books on grief from the library for the kid - hope they help :/ talked to the vet today to give them our address to send the ashes.

My vet's office gave me a book called Forever Paws ( http://www.lightheartedpress.com/books/ ... t-book.htm ), which is probably not something I would have purchased for myself, but I can see it being very comforting for a kid. <3

thank you everyone. she really was an amazing dog. we got the wooden box/urn with her ashes today and the vet's office made livi a lil box and personalized it for livi - i'll get pics up later - it's amazingly sweet.

I finally went to throw out her food and clean up some of her stuff and I lost my shiitake again. I miss my girl so much.
