Apparently someone I don't know used my number as their fake phone number and gave it out. I've been getting texts from men who speak Spanish since Saturday...want to scream!

That is just so not cool. I doubt they did it on purpose, but still! (If I were fluent in a language that was not Spanish or English, I would text them back. However, I am a horrible person.)

Last year I think someone gave out my number in a craigslist ad or something because for about 5 days they got more phone calls than I did but then it stopped.

That happened to me a few years ago. I'm pretty sure it was a hater asparagus bisque I know through the slam scene.
Hopefully, it will die down soon.

That sucks! My home phone number is one digit off from the phone number of a really popular used book/DVD/video game store, and people call us fairly often to ask if we still take PS3 games or whatever. Your situation sounds a bit more annoying, though.

Mohammad Darwish has been giving out my phone number for more than five years... to collection agencies. The last one was nice about it and the woman laughed and took my number off. Once I had a woman argue with me that I was Mohammad, and when I asked if I SOUNDED like a Mohammad, she then accused me of hiding him.

Best part about giving up my land line was that it stopped seven years worth of calls from collectors looking for some deadbeat named Greg something or other. I'm pretty sure Greg never met a bill he did pay.

Do you get a lot of texts? I bought a prepaid cellphone last week and got a textmessage that said " hey, do you know where I can buy shrooms?" and one call from some one who wanted to speak to Manuel.

Your situation sounds a bit more annoying, though. My friend's number was really similar to a customer service line for a cable company. For a while her voicemail message started with "Hi, this is NOT COMCAST" because she was getting so many angry calls and voicemails from people who had their undies in a bunch over their cable.

My cell phone number is one digit off from the number for an oil company. I get a lot of calls in the winter for refills.

How many people leave messages for the cable company anyway? My former in-laws had a number one digit off from the gas company and their answering machine said the same thing, but people still left messages about their gas bills.
