Hey, y'all. Just wondering if anyone has 'the nutritional yeast cookbook' by joanne stepaniak, or it if it's only something like newbie vegans like me buy because we want to get as much B12 as we can, no worries i ordered some B12 vitamins online (50mcg) to take daily :)

if you do have the cookbook what do you like or not like about it? what are some of your go-to recipes in that book?

thanks,
bethie

Maybe you're thinking of "The Vegan Sourcebook"?

I have The Nutritional Yeast Cookbook! The funny thing is I bought it solely because Jo wrote it. I'm not a fan of nutritional yeast at all. I tend to just leave it out of most things. My favourite recipe in the book is probably the Barbecued Buffalo Zings. The sauce for the zings is so good! I used to make them for my children all the time when they were growing up. I also like the Pistou, the Cauliflower Vichyssoise, Twice-Baked Potatoes, Roasted Breast of Seitan Turkey, Gee Whiz Spread, Pizza Bread, Walnut Praline Cheeze Pie, and Apple Babka.

Oh I am a fan of nutritional yeast! The Grit restaurant in Athens, GA first introduced me to it via their "golden bowl" which is brown rice, tofu (I think they deep fry it?!), steamed veg, and yeast gravy poured all over it. OMG so good!

I think I will pick up TNYC and see what it's like. I'd like to know how to use it beyond sprinkling it on veg and using it in yeast gravy.

I don't have this book but am very fond of a few of her others.

In the spirit of B12 reassurance: I've been vegan since 1988 and have pretty much relied on nooch for my B12 needs all that time. Had bloodwork a few months ago and my B12 was not only fine, but toward the high end of the range. It's good stuff.

yes, i use 'yeast gravy' when i make the "golden bowl" from The Grit at home.

I also generously sprinkle nutritional yeast over my steamed veggies, along with a pat of Earth Balance too ;)

I'm just trying to figure out how to use it more intentionally, I suppose. I just started taking a chewable B12 vitamin daily of 50mcg.

I have it! I used to make stuff from it all the time but haven't used it in a while so i'd have to look through to see what we liked. The only thing i still make regularly is the tofu bacon.

I'd definitely be interested in knowing the things you used to make a lot out of that cookbook, but also why you don't use it as much anymore.

Still on the fence about it purchasing the cookbook. I made a nutritional yeast chez sauce a couple of nights ago to use in place of real cheese for pizza and it was awful. i do love yeast gravy though, and have no problems sprinkling nooch directly on steamed veg....

Jo uses nooch in most of her cookbooks. I had this one, but gave it away because it seemed too similar to her others. One that is a bit different is "The Saucy Vegetarian."

yes the "saucy vegetarian" definitely caught my eye. it seems like a really cute book. do you get a lot of use out of it? i have several vegan cookbooks and i'm wondering if some of her "sauces" and such are going to end up being in other cookbooks i have under the appropriate chapters.

I didn't know this book existed but I am now gonna go to amazon and buy it. I'm addicted to nooch, I have it most days and I get twitchy if I run out and can't have any for a while!

I'm tempted to buy this, but I already have Vegan Vittles and the Uncheese book. Are there recipes in the nutritional yeast cookbook that are not also in her other books?

well the ppk peep named jill above mentioned she gave it away because she felt the recipes in the nooch cookbook were too similar to her other ones.

please do update us and share some of the recipe titles with us....

i ♥ books that list the recipes in the table of contents, but this book does not do that, so even though you can "preview" a bit of the book online, i don't really know what kind of recipes there are through the out book besides that they all have nooch in them ;)
