Kristen Schaal posted these on her twitter an they are cracking me up. Apparently Days of Our Lives has no way of making money other than this. I swear soap operas were not this bad when I used to watch them.

Midol

Chex Mix

Frozen Chinese Food

Weird! I used to watch soap operas way back when and it was never that blatant. Do they really have to zoom in on the product like that?

So amazing!

I love how they try to insert the pitch "naturally" into the dialogue.

Oh wow!

And I feel terrible that in the first video I was like "That Theresa from Passions!"...and in the third video it was like "Luis from Passions!" Why do I remember these things? Why can't I remember the faces of people I actually meet and need to remember?

Fee, no way was the product placement so bad on Days before. I watched General Hospital over the summer and never saw anything remotely like this. Maybe it's a new and very horrible thing only DOOL is doing?

The Chinese food one was the best!

ATWT was produced by Procter and Gamble, so they had to pitch those products sometimes. I can't remember it being that blatant, though.

haha, I just noticed how old this thread is.

Sami! I'm still mad that she took Best Villain away from Kristen in the 1998 Soap Digest awards. Sami was hapless. Kristen was legitimately evil!

Oh man, I loved Passions. I tuned out after the first three or four years though and I recently found myself looking up the various characters on Wikipedia to see what happened to them... wow, Theresa sure had some troubles.

Anyway, this sort of shiitake is terribly awkward, but it's one of the reasons I find soap operas so endlessly amusing. I don't think it's a new thing either, just rather than a character saying "Man, I have cramps, where's the Midol?" they do a little time-out for the product pitch, which is sooooo cringe-worthy. But funny!
