Ting from our motel room in san Diego. Totally forget to write my shopping list before I came. What should I get ? What crazy rare ingredients do I need? Especially those from viva vegan ! Thanks !

This is what I use everyday when I'm over there. Veganaise (the best vegan mayo ever) and Silk creamer. Since they don't have milk product in them you can bring them into the UK. Will try to think of more.

Gimme Lean is really good Clif chocolate brownies x 1000000 I'd pick up some liquid smoke because of how hard it is to find here.

Corn husks for tamales? How heavy can you go? Things like hominy for posole, Mexican oregano (though explaining that in customs could be amusing!), anatto seeds, Mexican hot chocolate... Non viva vegan, I'd say dandies and swedish fish!

I always bring back liquid smoke and better than chicken and beef bouillon. I have also brought Daiya, Chipotle field roast sausages, Uptons seitan, corn husks, Gimme lean, chipotles in adobo, different dried chillies and various other bits and pieces I spied in WF. Most of the VV things can be got on line from Mexgrocer but obviously more expensive, so it depends how much space you have and how much time you want to spend shopping there compared to doing it online here.

Vegenaise is at the top of my list of things to bring back the next time i visit. BEST MAYO EVER.
Old Bay seasoning is good for seafoody dishes, if you're into that sort of thing. Soy Curls, if you can find them (caveat: i've never tried them). and maple syrup is significantly cheaper in the US - i'm planning to bring over a quart of grade B from Trader Joe's or Whole Foods.
not ingredients per se: Primal Strips, Luna bars, Tofurky slices, Oreos, Go Max Go bars (only if they won't melt), Ricemellow Creme, Sweet & Sara marshmallows...

3rd the soy curls 2nd Old Bay seasoning because it's wicked expensive here (if you can find it); also chili powder (American chili powder is different than what you get here), and you might look at getting Spike or something like that Biscoff (or TJ's cookie butter if that's easier to find) Bragg's liquid aminos (if you can't get them where you live) Oreos/Newman-Os/store brand "chocolate sandwich cookies" (all the same recipe) aji paste (an ingredient in a few VV recipes - amarillo (yellow) is the mildest, I think)

oh, and canned chipotles! i don't know how easy to find or inexpensive they are here, but they're small and easy to transport.

Emergen-C! My old flatmate got me hooked. I second or third the bouillon cubes, chile powder, old bay and chipotle. Much cheaper in the States and there is a much bigger selection. Corn husks are light so if you plan to make tamales some time might as well pick some up! Apart from that, I would fill my suitcase with eleventy million Luna bars.

I wouldn't trust the PETA list. I know they at least used to have some stuff on there that wasn't actually vegan, but they put it on because it was 99% vegan or some kind of BS. I'd stick with things that have been verified by a more reliable source.

Thanks for this! I'm in the States in October, and you've done half the legwork for me with this thread!
Especially to the person who said Swedish Fish. My mom just sent some to Amsterdam for me and they were gone in 30 minutes. Every last one.
I hear they have 5 pound bags....

Mmmmmm Swedish Fish. I'm pretty sure Sour Patch Kids are also vegan... don't know if those exist outside the US or not, but for anyone who doesn't know they're sour gummy candies.
I would stock up on liquid smoke if you like it, because I had a hell of a time finding it when I lived in the UK, and when I did it was stupidly expensive, where in the US it costs like $2/bottle. Also, any Mexican-type spices and foods (like chili powder blends, ancho chilies, canned vegetarian refried beans, fun hot sauces etc.) because they are cheap and abundant here.
