It's my right-around-Labor-Day veganniversary. Eighteen years for me and Mrs. Face. Still chugging along.

I would've figured you would've died from protein deficiency by now... Congrats on being alive.

Your veganism can now vote! Congratulations! Did you and Mrs. Face go vegan together? Did one of you talk the other into doing it, or was it something you were both gravitating toward?

It look me a long time to arrive at vegan, but it's been over 20 years since I went (lacto) vegetarian. Crazy how time flies. I now feel old...

We went to very few strip clubs yesterday. We used to have a special supper to mark the occasion, I think. These days we just... I don't know. Exist?
Mrs. Face was way more motivated than I was. I had nurtured a years-and-years-long aversion to caring about things, so I looked at vegetarians with great skepticism and pity. I was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes in '92 (I'll announce my 20-year anniversary of that in 23 days, don't worry), and began improving my diet. We went vegetarian not too long after that. She was reading Diet for a New America and I was intrigued. Look, I didn't have to be a hippie or one of those carers. I could be interested in hard facts. I read the book and was outraged. I had never realized how wasteful, cruel, filthy, unhealthy, and unnecessary it all was. I felt like everything I had been told was a lie. Shortly after that, we both went vegan. For me, it started as a way to poke my finger in the eye of the System. "Count me out!" I said. I was sticking it to the man and no longer contributing (so much) to pollution, cruelty, or my own ill health.
And that was how I became interesting.

You should take your veganism out and buy it a pack of American Spirits.
