Yeah, it came out last year! :) I actually didn't like it as much as I expected to, but it was ok. She talks mostly about shopping, boyfriends, and diets, and I figure the show will be similar, but I'm still excited to see it.
I am excited because I love her so much. Plus, Bill Hader!
Are we at least going to see her quit/get fired or whatever? I'll be bummed if the show starts and they're like, "FYI, Kelly's gone!" Kelly is my favorite.
Anyway, I love Mindy Kaling and would watch her do a 80 minute monologue about grass.

I'm so excited for her. But they reeeally need a new title. If the person isn't playing his or her real-life self, don't name the tv show after them! I've always been so bothered by that.

The Office is still on?

I watched it without really knowing who she is and honestly thought it sucked. You have a women who is a doctor, paying her own bills has friends but wait, her life is not complete because she does not have a man! Oh the drrraaammmaaa...

Yeah, I also thought it was awful. I think they're trying to play her character off as a likeable-unlikeable in the post-Seinfeld mold, but I don't think they pulled it off at all. She was more of an unlikeable-unlikeable. I tapped out when she was taking a picture of the guy she didn't fork.

Also Seinfeld was funny, this show was not. I also think the writing was uncreative, I can already see a hookup with that mean guy (the other doctor) taking place....

I had mixed feelings about the pilot. On one hand, I didn't like the body shaming or the desperate man hunt. On the other hand, I think lending unpalatable traits to the character at the onset gives the character a chance to develop and grow into somebody who likes herself and who the audience will like. I do like Mindy Kaling, so I'm hoping the show will improve and eventually become more positive than it currently is.
Add me to the didn't-like-it camp. Way too much body shaming and my-life-isn't-complete-without-a-man stuff. I hope they make the character stronger than that throughout the show, but I don't think I'm going to stick around to find out. I really didn't find her likeable at all in this show, which really bums me out because she was one of my favorite Office characters.

i didn't like it either, but i'll watch a few more episodes to see if she's any more tolerable.

I'm really not a big fan of the MUST HAVE BOYFRIEND idea, but I read her book and knew it would be a sitcom mostly about dating, so it didn't surprise or really bother me.
As for the body stuff, I don't know, that's kinda how I talk about my own body. Like, ok, not ideal, but at the same time I know it's also not a big deal, you know? I can jokingly refer to myself as chubby (I am; it's ok) without it meaning that I'm putting myself down or judging anyone else's shape.
Yep, didn't like it. But then again, I didn't like her on The Office either, so I'm not even sure why I watched.

I liked it! A lot!
Maybe that's because my friends and I are horrible people; there were a few "been there!" or "seen it!" moments. Or maybe I just really identify with her character and enjoy that type of humor.
I can appreciate a character who has somewhat unrealistic dreams but doesn't let them get in the way of gettin' some.
