As for the body stuff, I don't know, that's kinda how I talk about my own body. Like, ok, not ideal, but at the same time I know it's also not a big deal, you know? I can jokingly refer to myself as chubby (I am; it's ok) without it meaning that I'm putting myself down or judging anyone else's shape. Yeah, to me a little bit of jokey self deprecation doesn't automatically equal body shaming. It was clear to me that she doesn't actually hate her body or think there's anything wrong it. I also read her book, so the show was pretty much exactly what I expected it to be. And I found her totally likeable, so maybe that means I'm a crasshole too.

Liking awful people doesn't make you a crasshole!
It just makes you a poor judge of character!

The worst thing about The Mindy Project is that people are already starting to use the word "tandoorable", which I think actually edges out "adorkable" as a punchable offense.

for someone who claims to think this show is dreck, you're awfully invested in this discussion of it.

That's not Mindy's fault though! I pretty much like every single thing about Mindy Kaling. Kelly was the best part of The Office. I read her book sitting in a room in a hospice while my great aunt was dying and I still laughed.

I have mixed feelings. I kind of thought this would have more feminist overtones. In a way it does, but I didnt think the show would be so focused on dating. I mean, ok, dating and relationships are part of life, but it seems like every single comedy/drama geared towards women centers around that. It's over done and boring. Also, I didnt think her Precious joke was self deprecating. It just seemed mean.
I guess I was hoping for a character more like Leslie Knope.

Mindy Kaling is pretty unapologetic about not being a size four.
I thought it was okay. Plus Le Tigre and M.I.A.! I'll keep watching, but there's some stiff competition with that other doctor sitcom because they have a monkey.

I was bored through out the first half but then it picked up for me. I feel that this will be one of those shows where the main character makes me cringey and I'll really like the side characters.

I really liked it! Part of that was due to le tigre and mia. that ruled, but also i thought she was funny and at least somewhat likeable. i think i read that some people didn't like how she acted towards her patients - like arguing with the kid when his mother was in labor, but since it's a comedy doctor show and not a real doctor show, i didn't mind that stuff.

Finally watched it. Hilarious and a nice counterpoint to the absolutely insipidly sweet shows like new girl. I like my neurotic ladies bitter and forked up rather than cutesy.

I liked this episode, but I reeeaaaally hate Chris Messina's character and I'm already tired of their banter.
Also: I really loved her outfit in the bookstore, and that blue purse.

yep, chris messina's character bugs me as well. liking the show overall, though. i kept wanting the new nurse to speak in his eastbound & down russian accent.

I thought the pilot was terrible but the second episode was much better. I'm going to stick it out for a while.

The highlight was Seth Meyers and the FroYo. If the whole episode had been like that, I'd be hooked on this show. But it wasn't. I did like her having to fight for her credibility while Castellano gets it automatically.
And as for the nurse, I am already tired of him. I wish that she'd hired someone good, subtle and funny, not physical comedy trainwreck guy, to show again how competent she is at work, for the contrast between personal and work life, which I thought was a basic plot point on the show.

I really like this show!
I'm not sure I understand how it can be taken as a woman needing a man type of thing. To me, it reads as poking fun of those types of shows and movies. Like the joke where she narrates that sappy shiitake on the subway or when she calls herself Reese Witherspoon.
Also, how great are her outfits?!
