My favorite restaurant for vegan food (though not veg*n restaurant) is Irregardless Cafe. Even being soy/gluten free - I have choices on the menu!
The best is the vegetable biryani. Also good: curried vegetables, portabello polenta w/vegan pesto.

Zpizza is pretty good. I'm pissed it's open a 4 minute drive from where I used to live, but whatever.

If anyone runs away to Fayetteville, Bombay Bistro is an Indian Buffet that routinely has 3 vegan options (one of which is usually pakoras) plus two kinds of rice, pitas, and 2 or 3 kinds of vegan sauces (also 3-4 chicken things). Yums. I yelp stuff though.

I'm from Greensboro, which is about and hour and a half away from Raleigh/Durham. We actually have one awesome vegetarian restaurant here in town - Boba House.

I'd have to say my favorite restaurant I've tried so far in the Triangle is the Remedy Diner, but I really liked Butternut Squash also.

Plus, how about the Bull City Vegan Challenge? Has anyone been to try any of the dishes?

I like neomunde- they are not an exclusively veggie place, but they have felafel, cabbage stir fry (so good!) and other bean dishes.

I just saw a bread making demo by Neomunde at the fair this weekend! Good to know they have good food too. I love the Remedy Diner in Raleigh... Spotted Dog, Carrburritos in Carrboro, Twisted Noodles, Buns in Chapel Hill (awesome veggie burgers!) And others I can't think of right now

I haven't gotten to go to the Bull City Vegan Challenge but have heard very good things.

I had the vegan chicken salad at The Remedy a couple of weekends ago - it was so realistic I was freaking out a little bit that they might have given me real chicken by mistake!

There's a new restaurant in North Hills (Raleigh) called Spring Rolls that has an amazing selection of veg entrees.

I took my grandparents to Boba House, and they surprisingly really liked it, even though my grandmother doesn't like my being vegan, and my grandfather didn't quite understand fake meat.

There's Butternut Squash in Chapel Hill, isn't there? They had really good tempeh wings last time I was there, and vegan chocolate cake. Veggie, not all vegan.

The one time I went to Sage with my omnivore boyfriend, his brother, and his dad, they loved their vegetarian meals... My food didn't sit well with me.

Yeah Butternut Squash in Chapel Hill is a veggie restaurant, but honestly the only decent thing I have ever had there is the tempeh wings. And I got sick from Sage too!

Shaba Shabu, a sushi place in Durham has a lot of really awesome vegan sushi options, more than the standard avocado and cucumber. And there is the Queen of Sheba Ethiopian in Chapel Hill which has vegan options as well.

Yay for NC!

I love Irregardless! Mr. Fish took me there the night he proposed. Smart man.

Livi and I are going to Raleigh tomorrow and while we're there we'll meet deearess - so if you never see us again or her again, well, you know.

Haha! We all made it back to our respective homes just fine. We had lunch at zpizza, hit the mall and saw Santa. Then appifanie was able to stock up on WFM and TJ goodies before heading back home. So glad y'all were able to come up for a visit.

ETA: it was so cute how happy Livi looked when she found out I don't eat meat either.

Just so ya know, it says "soy cheese" but it's Daiya which is soy-free.

eta: They have a thin, crispy gluten free crust too.

Irregardless doesn't have the vegetable biryani right now, at least seasonally. I'm hoping it's not gone forever. The fig baked onion is really good though.

I've finally gotten by Neomonde for the falafel and it's great! I've been a couple times and also tried and enjoyed the potato salad (not your typical mayo salad) and mujadarrah (rice/lentils/onions). And the halva is nice dessert.

The Whole Foods on Wade Ave now has a gelato case by the bakery and they serve about 4-5 different flavors of sorbet.

I love the shepherd's pie at the Irregardless. And their tahini dressing is the BEST.

Have you guys tried Delight Soy products? They're made by a local (Morrisville) company and are SO GOOD. I know Lotus Leaf in Cary uses it in some of their recipes, and also the Remedy Diner in downtown Raleigh. I finally bought some at Whole Foods and made "chicken" salad this weekend and it was EXCELLENT.

I haven't because I can't do soy, but I'll tell my sis about it.
The new whole foods on Six Forks is open. I drove by the other day, but I haven't had a chance to go in. I hear it's great.

That Whole Foods is within walking distance from my house!
!!!
!

It's also been so packed every time I go by there that I haven't gone in yet. I'm going to try to get up early one morning and beat the rush.

Molly, you're so close! I went in yesterday. The parking lot was pretty full, but it didn't feel overly crowded inside. It was lovely, but I didn't take the time to see if there was really anything that different about it. However, my favorite barista from the Wade ave store transferred. I hang out with friends in N Raleigh sometime, but the other one is more convenient, so I don't know that I'm very happy about it.

I did find a personal size rice crust/cheezeless/roasted veggie pizza (365 brand) in the freezer section. Other than the sauce being a little bland, it was pretty good.

I went this morning and was really disappointed that they don't have vital wheat gluten in the bulk bins. The produce section was a little smaller than I expected, too - I saw purple potatoes at the Wade Avenue store but they didn't have any there and I was hoping to make the AFR Purple Potato soup! I'll have to try to track them down somewhere else.

Overall I am VERY happy to have the store there and I think I'm going to spend a fortune there.

Okie - I went to Wade and had underwhelming dal and good sushi.
