I haven't been in Portland for around a year. Has anything new and amazing popped up? I mean, I know of a few things, but I'm sure stuff has slipped through the cracks. (I know about the Veggie Grill, exciting!)

There's Canteen, Boke Bowl...I'm trying to think of how long ago a year was. Was Sweet Hereafter open then? Sizzle Pie was open then right?

Homegrown Smoker just moved their second cart to Mississippi next to Native Bowl, which is nice. I discovered Luc Lac downtown which is awesome for me. Jade Teahouse continues to be amazing. The PDX bowl at Canteen is yummy!

It's finally summer. That's the biggest news! I was still turning on my heat for a couple hours to warm up some days - the last time on June 30th (it was 60 inside, but wasn't going to get any warmer w/o help.)

departure -- best vegan bar food in pdx. (omni but with separate vegan menu) natural selection -- vegetable and legume haute cuisine. (veg)
vegan ramen: boke bowl - non-traditional but with terrific add ons and noodle choices. wafu -- intense mushroom-miso broth (and sometime way too salty).
boxer sushi (menu changes frequently and sometimes only has a few vegan options): grilled japanese eggplant with vegan "eel" sauce is the best vegan sushi i've had the pleasure of shoving into my salivating mouth. also recommend marinated abalone mushroom sashimi and the vegan(!) inari.

Speaking of....we went to Departure for the first time since they introduced legit, expansive vegan options tonight, and holy hell, I kick myself so hard for not going sooner (especially when I worked downtown forever and used to happy hour around there more often).

Bowery Bagels opened in June and has awesome cashew-based vegan schmears. (Full disclosure, I make bagels there.) I'm trying to convince the powers that be to sell little tubs of schmear at the shop. The schmear is GF and the bagels are vegan, with one exception as of today (Fire in the Hole has honey in it). We're getting kosher certified soon, too!
The bagels are awesome NY-style boiled bagels. They will blow your mind. Remember how good we thought Kettleman's were? These bagels put those to shame. You can find 'em at Stumptown, in the New Seasons deli, and at our shop at 310 NW Broadway downtown.

Where is Divine now? Old spot? I like AND cafe, just a bit far from where I live. Their pics on FB make me drool every day.
