Damn, I was rooting for Sable so hard and I'm totally crying now. So sorry for everything you guys went through. She was so lucky to have you, though. It sounds like she had a pretty amazing life.

I am trying to think of things to do to celebrate Sable's life. I am doing a scrapbook, but does anyone have any other ideas? I want to do something that celebrates all the good memories I have with her and all the fun times we had.

I'm getting a tattoo of Effie soon, though I don't know if tattoos appeal to you. I also sort of have a little shrine in progress.

I always thought I'd get a tattoo someday... if I ever get over my phobia of needles! If I do, Sable will be at the top of my list. I'm getting her cremated privately and sent back to me in an urn, so I'm trying to think of a place to put that and maybe I can surround it with photos.
Right now the hardest part is knowing I'll never be able to hug her or pet her again...

I'm so sorry, rc. Sable was such a lucky dog to have a dogmama who loved her so, so much and gave her such a full life.

I'm so sorry, RC. I am crying here. Even for those of us who only knew you and Sable through the internet, it was very clear how intensely and deeply Sable was loved. She had a good and fulfilled life. RIP beautiful dog.

RC, I'm so so sorry! I'm so glad you've shared so many stories and pictures of Sable on the boards so we could get to know her. She was a really special puppy. So so sorry for your loss.

I'm so sorry, raspberrycomplaint. I'm crying reading this. It was so clear that Sable was your heart dog. It will take some time for your heart to heal. Be kind to yourself. Sending you hugs and many warm thoughts.

I'm so sorry RC. Please reach out to someone if you need to. Grief is sometimes just too much to go through alone.
Putting photos and maybe flowers around her urn sounds nice to me. Her favorite toy could to next to it.

When you feel better, maybe something like a toy drive for the dogs at the shelter in Sable's name? My favorite shelter/clinic here does drives for specific things like shampoo and towels. They have a fundraiser named for a particular dog.

When we lost our dog (he was 11 when he died, too), we made a little photo album for him. We also put little decorations around his urn, which is at home. It is so painful losing a pet when they haven't lived a full life. We always wish for our animals to live to see 20, and it's crushing when we lose them early. It will take a while to heal, but I know the next dog that enters your life will be so so very lucky to have you.

I'm so sorry about Sable, i'm sure i'm not the only one who cried a little while reading this. I know nothing is going to make it hurt less, but you were a good mom and gave her a good life, a good fight, and let her go when she needed you to.

I knew I shouldn't have read this first thing in the morning. Now I'm blubbering at work. Sable was an awesome dog and you were awesome to her. I can't tell you how many times I enviously read your stories of taking her out somewhere and she didn't act like a maniac like any dog I've ever had would. She was obviously an exceptionally special dog.
I don't have any tips to deal with pet-loss grief. Last time I lost my best friend I was inconsolable for weeks and then refused to talk about him for...going on ten years now. I don't know how people move on in healthy ways, but I hope you find your own way soon.

I am so sorry. It was always so obvious how much you loved her and how happy she was. I was always delighted to see photos of her and read about her life, since it was clear to me how you two were best friends. You gave her your all, your whole heart, and in the end, that's what counts. Try to find peace in that. xoxo

My family has a picture of our pet that had to be put down on our refrigerator. I think doing what you're doing and enjoying life and (eventually) being happy and having happy memories of her would be a wonderful way to honor Sable. When it's time, I'm sure Sable would be overjoyed that you get another dog. But in the meantime, take the time to miss her and mourn her. <3

i'm so, so sorry that things ended this way, but i'm so impressed by you and proud of you for already looking for ways to keep sable's memory and life close to you. like fee said, healthy grieving is so not my strength; i tend to fall apart and then close everything up in a little box. sable was so fortunate to have someone to love her the way you have. i hope that when ophelia's time comes, i'm able to handle it with half as much grace.

She was a very special dog. One of a kind. I could take her anywhere. Whenever the animal shelter had a table set up at any event, we would bring Sable, because we knew she was a dog who would be perfect around children, other dogs, random weirdo people, etc. And she loved getting all the attention and petting from everyone. I've just been looking back through the pictures of our animal friends thread, and it brought back so many good memories of her. All her walks and adventures and her yearly photos with Santa. I hope she had as much happiness in the 11 years we were together as I did.

I'm so sorry RC. I always remind myself that their lives are so short compared to ours even without mysterious medical issues that the only thing that we can do is give them a good life and enjoy the time we have with them. I think you gave Sable a good life and obviously lots of love and caring.
