My dog growing up was named Rosie, and when she passed at 14 it was a very big loss for my family. My mom did something really simple and sweet, which I love. She put a little rose sticker on the wall just above where Rosie's food and water bowl used to be. Just a sweet little reminder everyone sees at the house.
Sending you lots of love RC. I am so sorry for your loss. Lots of us loved Sable too, even through the internet.

After Butters died, my sister painted me a picture from one of my favorite photos of him. If you or a friend have an artistic inclination, it's a nice tribute.

I am so very sad to hear about Sable, RC. And I am so glad she lived such a well-loved life.

I'm so sorry. Even just from being on here, I can tell she had a wonderful life and knew she was loved and had plenty of adventures.
My local animal shelter will engrave a brick in the entryway as a memorial in exchange for a donation. I've always thought that is a great way to leave a little legacy for a loved pet. I think the album idea sounds great, too.

When my shelter gets a new building (in the next few years, hopefully) they are going to have a brick walkway where people can sponsor a brick. I will definitely look into getting one done in Sable's memory, especially since she was adopted from the shelter.

Thank you. Everyone has been so nice. Today I got a big beautiful flower arrangement from Sable's physical therapists. And all of my friends want to contribute something to her memory book. I'm glad that so many people loved Sable.

I haven't been checking in as much but I wanted to send you some virtual hugs RC. Much love. Sable was such a great dog. She touched so many people that don't even know her in real life with her antics!

I just saw this and it made me tear up. I'm so sorry you and Sable had to go through this but hope that it makes you feel better to know that she's no longer in pain and you were the best possible mother for her. She was a beautiful dog and I loved seeing pictures of her.

Thank you, everyone. I still miss her every minute of every day. Her memory book is coming along nicely. One of my friends is drawing a picture of her, and my little cousins also drew cute little pictures that I put in the book. We got sympathy cards from several people, including her regular vets and the emergency vet. They all said they could tell she was a very special dog, even the people who had only met her once. I put all the cards in the memory book, so I can look back and see the nice things people said about her.
I had her cremated, and we should be getting the ashes back soon. I picked an urn that had a collie figurine on top that looks like Sable, and it will have a plaque with her name and "Always in Our Hearts" on it. I think it will be comforting to have her ashes back with me.
I am just starting to think about adopting another dog. I haven't been without a dog since I was 6 years old, and I'm really lonely without one. So I've looked up the contact info for collie rescues in the northeast US, and we are going to contact all of them, and just let them know what kind of dog we are looking for. My mom has a week vacation coming up in October, so she said that we can travel a bit then if there is a potential dog available in a nearby state. My mom actually had a dream the other night where Sable visited her. Sable showed her a bunch of different collies and my mom kept hearing "9 months, 9 months" in her head. If we end up adopting a 9 month old collie, I am going to be so freaked out!
Also, because I am a total weirdo, I had been saving all the fur I brushed out of Sable for a couple of years. The intention was to have it spun into yard and then knitted into a scarf or something. So I'm looking into having that done soon. It would mean even more to me now that she's gone. Plus I could become known as "that weird lady with a dog hair scarf"!
