Has anyone else had problems with Redwood's fish steaks? I loved them when they first came out, but the last two packages I've bought felt like eating a fish-flavoured sponge. They were so bad that I felt compelled to write to them.

Did they write back? I just had some for lunch and didn't like them half as much as last time. They didn't feel as flaky and tasted more vinegary, like the hideous cakes.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that. I got an email from Quality Control saying that the coagulation (I think) is difficult to get right ( guess the process is similar to making tofu). They didn't change the formula, so I must've gotten a dodgy batch (well, 2 from the same dodgy batch). And they didn't offer to compensate me. Since it's impossible to judge the texture when they're inside the package, I haven't bought any more for fear of getting more dodgy ones.

Uch, I hate that. Why bother to have a customer service department if it doesn't offer any, y'know, customer service! Do companies not realise that something like a money off voucher in this situation is the difference between a customer losing faith in the brand/products & giving them another go?!

I had mine last night and it still tasted as good, not vinegary. But the texture is definitely a little different. Still good though!

I bought some fish steaks and they have gone downhill massively since I first tried them... they were like jelly in the middle. Jelly and breadcrumbs, eugh. :(

I've bought another packet. If these are bad, I'm never buying them again, and I'm telling Redwood's that.

I have a packet in the freezer and I'm with you on that.

Did you freeze the previous pack you weren't impressed with? I think that the texture totally changes after freezing & the breading fell off of mine both times I froze them. I intend to e-mail them to tell them they shouldn't have 'suitable for home freezing' written on the pack.

Just out of curiosity how did you cook them? When I pan fried them they were almost jelly-ish. They firm up much more in the oven.

Both times I've had them so far they've been fresh and oven baked. And the second time was totally different from the first.

Yeah, that's the most pressing concern.

I'm eating a fish steak right now. They're not disgusting, but they're not as mind-blowingly delicious as they were the first couple of times. I suspect they changed something. Or maybe it's because I baked instead of grilled. Still good, but I'm glad I got them in the bogo 1/2 off sale at H&B.

They have been oven cooked both times... I guess I might have just had a funny packet!

Well, I thought I posted about this on here, but I guess not. Mornflake make a cereal called Chocolatey Squares that reminds me a lot of Speculoos cereal. It's chocolate pillows filled with chocolate/hazelnut spread. They're amazingly delicious. A 30g serving barely covers the bottom of a bowl, but man, are they good.

I only just discovered these, but they are totally addictive. They were £1 for 500g in Sainsburys on Sunday, not sure how long the offer is on, but it's worth buying several packs if you've got cupboard space.

Hehe no hard feelings Tigerpants.

Thank you for reminding me about the speculoos cereal; I need to get to Sainsburys asap!

It's not that new, but Glorious soups mark their vegan ones, and the Fragrant Thai Carrot in particular is delicious. On special offer for £1 at Morrisons at the moment, too!

I don't know if anyone else has seen this, but I saw chard at Tesco today. (I'm considering this a new product because it's the first time I've seen it outside the farmers market/Whole Foods.)

I know it's not really new, but a work fan swapped me a block of the Tesco 'mild soy' cheese for some agar powder she couldn't find. It's amazing melted - just tastes like red Leicester once it's melted. It's so cheese-like when hot that I keep making the mistake of picking at it cold (and promptly making cat-like faces of disgust).

They're going some salads in M&S (like the ones near the sandwiches not the salad) there was 3 which were vegan.
I had one it had like roasted red pepper hummus and rice and olives and sun dried toms in it with paprika as a dominant flavour, it wasn't too bad.

I had to take quite a few Redwoods things back to Holland & Barrett & they always gave me my money back BUT when I went directly to Redwoods they really didn't want to compensate me. After quite a lot of emails I think I got the price of the product back. I find it quite incredible that a totally vegan company would peas so many of their vegan customers off. It's not like it would cost much to keep us happy!

It's extra weird because they're really happy to send masses of freebies if you ask - we contacted them at work for world vegan day and they sent heaps and heaps of food for free.

Second this, there are several very good meals to be had from their salad range, generally the dressings are the non-vegan part but they come in separate pots so you can get rid of them and just have a lovely giant cous cous salad or whatever. Fun times!
