Also, she referred me to neurology for something called a nerve conductivity test. I have no idea what this is (I have a firm policy that forbids my googling anything medical), but since it doesn't involve the MrI I was expecting, I'm thrilled.
Molly forgot to be pissed at me for a few minutes today! Probably because I broke my grocery no-buy to get her strawberries. I had a nerve conductivity test when I was recovering from a pulled scapular accessory nerve post-surgery. I completely forgot about it until you mentioned it. It's a diagnostic test they can use to check for muscle and nerve damage. Since you have a no-Google policy I'll spoiler my experience, just in case. Basically, they run current through various electrodes or needles on you, depending on which type, to see if the nerves are working properly. So, you essentially are being shocked at a low grade of electricity. Mine was done on my right arm, shoulder and shoulderblade. It was a little painful, since the farther they get my fingers, the more electricity they had to use. It's sometimes used in conjunction with an EMG, electromyography, which it was in my case. Good luck, LW! Let me know how it goes. And I'm glad Molly's starting to come around. Strawberries are pretty magical.

Hey, thanks!
My no Google policy is because every symptom, no matter how benign, always ends up being something that will have you on death's door. It actually started because my mom has a joke that if I look up side-effects, I'll end up with all of them. So she started reading them, and then if I have any, I tell her, and she tells me if I should worry.
In my defense, after we started this, I took an antidepressant and said that my jaw was locking. Everybody thought I was loony tunes nutso, but, sure enough, there is was in the tiny print under "rarely observed."
At a y rate, though I am not a hypochondriac, I am highly suggestible.

Now to find an examiner who's actually up on trans* studies stuff. Sigh. Yay! Good for you!

Now to find an examiner who's actually up on trans* studies stuff. Sigh. That's awesome! You're lucky to have a great supervisor, I really disliked mine (and she disliked me even more)- but on the plus side, that made it even more exciting when I was finished with the whole thing. I used to know a bunch of academics on your field when I was doing my Grad Dip (in gender and development), but that was in Adelaide and a few years ago now so probably not super helpful. The best thing about my day- on Friday mornings I do volunteer work with an aid organisation, and their office happens to be above a really nice cafe where the baristas actually know how to prepare soy milk well. It's so good that I stopped buying coffee near my work on other days because it just tasted horrible in comparison. So getting my weekly coffee there is always the best part of my day.

On Tuesday night I saw that there was $250 worth of fraudulent charges on my checking account, and I just filled out the dispute form yesterday, and I have all the money back already even though they told me it would be 4-7 days!

Last night was the party to welcome new students and there was a lot of free booze. While stumbling home, I decided to sit under a tree to wait for some people I outran (I dunno why they're such slowpokes) and then I saw a kitty. I attracted it with a stick and played with it for a while, and then it sat on my lap for a few minutes. It was so cute.

So at 6am I woke up, had a hard time getting back to sleep so I turned on The Supremes on repeat and fell asleep after a bit. Then at 9:15ish I woke up to the buzz of a text message and The Supremes were singing away at me and the text was something super sweet from my crush. Best way to start the day, ever.

the old people in this city are delightful. over the past two days, i have seen the following: -old man riding a bicycle -old man dressed like a teenager (black hoodie with grey stripes on the sleeves and some violent-looking brand logo on the front and black) -a group of seniors, 99% of whom had walkers, making their way across the parking lot towards a cafe; they looked so much like a zombie hoard, it was adorable.

My two supervisors took me out to tea and gave me tons of academic advice and gave me a really sweet card and a couple of awesome gifts. I want to cry, can I cry now? Happy cry, though.

I visited a new (to me) organic store and found all this new stuff to try! I've tested about half of it already, haha! That's a vegan nail polish in the middle, btw.
