I got my combo platform and SPD pedals installed yesterday, spent an hour and a half this morning learning how to use them and then biked to Boston! So much fun! I fell three times while practicing but it was really surprisingly easy to switch to!

I am so. very. out of shape. Rode a relaxed 20 miles to the Science Museum and back along the Charles River and aaahhhh exhaustion. Amazing what taking a month off after having surgery does to you.

lillianp, I keep wondering if I ever pass you/you ever pass me biking. This is totally 100% not creepy.

Bike peoples, would it be crazy to turn around and sell the bike I just got in January in favour of a new one? It's a 52cm Fuji cross bike and since getting and riding the 49cm Specialized Tricross all summer I'm thinking it's a tiny bit too big for me and I'd be more comfortable on something a bit smaller framed and also a bit more commuting-inspired. Thoughts? I'd probably have to go new because finding tiny bikes on craigslist is hard without a car to go pick it up immediately. Being a short guy is a pain.

I bet we have at some point or another! Though you probably passed me. I can be sloooooow. And it's not creepy at all. I don't know about selling your bike though. I don't know enough about that kind of thing!

I'm in the process of buying my first racer bike. I'm really excited to get serious with biking! My goal is to complete Vätternrundan (an annual 300 km race), and eventually I want to do an Ironman. I've been checking out a nice Trek bike, but it's veeeery expensive, 30 000 SEK (like 4250 US dollars). I guess I better keep looking.

i started commuting by bike a couple of weeks ago as it made total sense, but since it's only 4 miles each way and mostly/all on roads (depending on the route i take) i decided that neither my long travel HT MTB nor the 6" travel freeride FS MTB are really that well suited... so next month, i pick one of these tasty little devils up (but mine's bright orange!):

never seen one of those before... but a SS steel bike with rack/fender mounts is ideal for commuting!

it's made by a small(ish) northern english (mostly MTB/CX) bike company called Cotic. it ticks all the right boxes for me, including being about 30% off retail price!

My friends team set up a ~1.8mi cross course last weekend and I finally got it uploaded.

6 days til i go pick up my roadrat and i can't wait.
commuting in autumn wind and rain in manchester on a long travel HT MTB isn't the easiest, but on the plus side it means i've been getting an hour a day of resistance work in!

ridley! yeah, i was freezing and didn't break a sweat and he was super sweaty when he was in the front and turned to talk to me i'd get hit with a cascade of sweat. I had never ridden that far on a tandem before so it was pretty excellent.

haha. ive never ridden a tandem before... sounds a bit scarey though. i do want to watch the tandamania that they have on the track by us though.

Sweet! How do you like the couplers? Ive never used any before.

They're fantastic. I've only taken it apart once but it seems to work great- especially if you get the cable splitters.

I am kind of nervous about not having them tightened enough or tightening them too much but I guess we'll just see...

yah ive always thought about them coming loose but never over tightening them. do they come with a torque spec and specialty wrench?

There are a couple of wrenches you can get that work with it. It doesn't come with. I got a wrench with a long arm because I'm not exactly a body builder and they mentioned that because I got that one I should not tighten it as tight as I absolutely could... I really have no idea though. I just check to make sure they're tight about once a week and so far they've been totally fine.
