"7 layer burrito, no cheese or sour cream" always gets me a vegan burrito. You guys must go to jerk Taco Bells.

I had really good luck with the 7 layer burrito twice. But after they screw it up and you've already driven off and then thrown the burrito out the window into the windshield of the person behind you once, you kind of don't want to take a chance again.

Really? It's been ages since I ate there regularly, but I never recall that happening to me, but I wasn't really veg back then, so maybe the shock wouldn't have stuck with me? Taco Bell was also my first job and I don't recall meat going out where it shouldnt, mainly because they were freaks about food costs.

I've had it happen a few times on road trips. Enough that I stopped ordering the seven layer burrito and get a bean burrito instead.

No Meatless Monday post this week. Instead, the author posts about Mac'n'Cheese with hotdogs. Because it's so hard to find meatless mac'n'cheese these days.

I always wonder about this. With so many people eating less meat, and with frozen veggie burgers being so popular, why don't more of the bigger fast food hamburger joints carry them? It seems like it would make financial sense to have a veggie burger on the menu. I get that In-and-Out has a very limited menu, but why doesn't, say McDonalds, have a veggie burger on their standard menu in the U.S.?

So they don't attract vegans that give their regular customers dirty looks.

That's why they always make that stuff vegetarian. Also, the European McVeggieburger tastes like... blah. (Ate that a few years ago)

Whatever. The articles are ridiculous.

I've had to live reading this bullshiitake all year. The people at that rag are jokes, and I know some of those authors and they are just as much crassholes in person as they are on paper. It's not even worth the time going there to read it, because all that does is boost their hits.

Honestly I go to Taco Bell all the time and have since childhood (I know it's sad but sometimes you need 4th meal), they are not the best at taking orders in general. You have to know how to order so it goes into their computer. Like, Mexican Pizza NO MEAT NO CHEESE or 7 Layer burrito, fresco style no sour cream no meat, no cheese. They have little buttons for each no. It helps to have them read it back too.

The thing that drives me crazy there is that you have to say "no meat" even if the dish doesn't contain meat. The seven layer burrito is vegetarian, but they'll add meat to it unless you tell them not to.

The thing that drives ME crazy is that they do that with lettuce and I am forever saying "no lettuce" and they say, "it doesn't come with lettuce" and I'm like, I know it's not supposed too...This happens at Thundercloud too. It's hard out there for a lettuce hating vegan!

I thought Thundercloud's bread wasn't vegan, did that change?

I have eaten many 7-layer burritos at Taco Bell, both as a vegetarian and as a vegan, and I have never, ever had one with meat in it. Nor have I ever ordered it with "no meat."

Meatless Monday: it's like some crazy suggestion that people could eat something other than meat, like, one day out of the week! (I think it might be Monday.)

Like that's even possible, amirite?!

I really want my mom to post this on her facebook, haha. I've been home visiting for almost a week now and I've cooked a bazillion (great) things, which my parents love. And my mom always very proudly posts about the dinners I make every night, and all of her fb friends comment "better you than me!", "too bad for you!", "can you have meat with it or does your daughter not let you?" etc etc. OMG PEOPLE. Seriously all of these people all say things like that. I can't believe it's so hard for people to fathom one meal without meat. It's despicable.

Also, +1 to your applying to take over the column.

Why don't you take your burger, wrap it around your cork, jerk off with it, and then use your custard as special sauce! Is that vulgar enough?

HAHAHAHAHA! Thank you for this!

Yes! The non-vegan part was l-cystine and it's gone.

And I know this paper isn't ever going to change (though letters were written). Just expressing my bewilderment at the bad writing.

I posted this over in the Chico Veganitude thread in the Square, but thought I'd share my facepalm here, because it's lonely over there. The announcement of Meatless Monday in my town just about made all the ag students at the college have an aneurysm. I think the latest update is the dining hall will try and proceed with meatless Monday, but not call it meatless Monday. So logical.

You must go to nice ones. I used to try that (in both California and Arizona) and almost always it was wrong. I gave up on ordering it. Even ordering a bean burrito without cheese failed 50% of the time. Now I order a fresco style bean burrito and no problems. But that's it. Well, once I had a problem - I ordered a fresco bean burrito and got a fiesta beef burrito - I had to return it twice before it was right. But that taco bell was in a really small town and the lady taking the order just didn't get it.
