Molly just threw a big hissy fit, and now is trying to save face.

Lately, she is only eating the apple out of her fruit and veggie dish. She hasn't been eating her pepper, which is my main concern since conures need extra vitamin K. She does this sometimes, with blueberries, corn, carrot, and now for the past couple of months she is an apple fiend.

So, today, she got: carrot, couscous, strawberry.

She climbed down to get her apple, poked around in the dish, gave me a Look, dumped the dish over (heavy ceramic!) and climbed back up, and gave me another Look.

Now she is trying to sneak back down to get strawberries without me noticing. She thinks she is being sneaky. She climbs down, peeks to see if I'm watching, and if I am, she veers off to pretend to play with a toy before making a new foray.

How long do you think I'll last before I give her a few pieces of her precious Pink Lady?

Hey, believe me.... she is a saint with food compared to what I have landed with. I have a cockatiel that will actually risk starvation rather than eat pellets or any kind of fruit and veg. He will only eat seeds. Little shiitake has cost me a fortune in buying pellets too especially since the only place in the country that has them is a 90 minute drive each way.

I say..... give her the pink lady!

She might eat fortified whole grain toast. Just make sure to toast it really well. Ours also eats rice and pasta. She likes carbs, I guess. Try hand feeding him oatmeal.

Our tiel won't eat much other than seed either, but she is a grand old lady who is very muscular and athletic, and her blood work has been looking great, especially considering her near fatal egg binding and kidney issues.

Tiel's in the wild don't eat as much fruit/veg, etc as macaw and conures, so I don't think it's quite as critical.

If you want to be sneaky, you can get Harrison's powder or you can smash Roudy Bush to smithereens and sprinkle it on her food so she can't avoid eating some.

This is hilarious although I know you are worried about her not getting enough vitamin K. I would pick apple over peppers too!

Sad to say..... but that didn't even work for him! He just seemed to know it was there and wouldn't touch any of the seeds at all. Flipping diva of a bird.

Yeah, but she doesn't seem to like the texture. Mostly, she can have anything I eat as long as there is no chocolate or avocado. I even let her sneak a wee sip of wine once in a blue moon.

Red, yellow, or orange pepper used to be one of her favorite things. She just goes on these single food binges sometimes, and it drives me batty (even though I do it too).

I haven't given her any apple yet, but I probably will when I take her back upstairs. She has been down in my office with me, being a total little snuggle bug while I work on lesson plans. <3

Can you get a supplement for her? We give our kidlet vitamin drops.

if your kid had a beak, you might not be so successful with those drops!!! what is it they say, keeping a bird is like having a three year old kid who has a very sharp can opener and is not afraid to stick you in the soft bits with it. you'd have to get some serious gloves and maybe a beekeeper suit....

my cockatiel is also a diva. i am only relieved by the fact that, besides seeds, he loves to eat greens and dirt (and things off our plates), because there is no way he is eating any pellet of any kind. No matter how much they cost, how far away they came from, or what pretty colors they are. nuh uh.

my bet is that momma bird immediately caved in to the pressure from snuggly little conure. the other day we passed a pet store that was raising young ones, and while just looking through the glass at this place makes me want to cry in general, the young birdies were so sweet, shaking their banana-smoothie all over the place and making a huge mess.

is it possible to slightly dehydrate an apple slice and then put some vitamin drops on it to soak in?

Any attempt to trick a bird into eating things they don't wish to consume will inevitably end in monumental failure, if not outright disaster.

Torque's description of a three year old with a can opener is right on.

Moll is overall pretty good with her diet. She eats her veggies (usually). I don't want her getting on these one food tracks though!

She got her apple a few hours ago, and it's already all gone.

Nope! An actual 4 hours! I bet that was pretty close to an eternity in conure years; they aren't known for patience.

I love the Impatient Bird dance. It's like a grapevine back and forth and back and forth, so frenetic that they start tripping over their own toes. After a few minutes or two, a truly pitiful mewling soundtrack starts to accompany it. I'm not sure how long this could continue because I usually fall for it after a few minutes.

They never cooperate with video. Sad face. The best I've managed is the strawberry nom nom video.

keep offering the pepper like it's no big deal and hopefully soon she'll be back on track.
