Here's what keeps me busy: Lots of events and activism for the rest of September! VegFest is Sept. 22/23 at the Oregon Convention Center, with about 2 dozen speakers and chef demos, including Jasmin Singer & Mariann Sullivan (Our Hen House) and this year Aaron from Portobello promises to make it! Jasmin and Mariann will also be speaking after the NW VEG vegan potluck on 9/16 (come late if you can't make the potluck.) Also, several opportunities to hear/meet with activist Nick Cooney of Change of Heart fame, plus the Walk for Farm Animals, a protest of the circus.... Here's a calendar of the above and more: http://nwveg.org/events And if you can volunteer at VegFest we could use your help (and you get in free both days): more info at volunteer@nwveg.org.

I may be volunteering at a booth but I am unsure of my schedule.

Phew, what a weekend!
What were some highlights for everyone else?
I got to see Aaron Adams cooking demo and learned how to make ravioli. His instruction was so great that (a) I'm going to buy a pasta maker this week and (b) I'm tempted to sign up for his next class (where I used to think his $75 fee was too great, it now seems like a bargain). Really awesome instruction, fun, and such a tasty sample!
Was glad to see more lunch options there this year. Also very stoked on Coconut Bliss (got to try a couple flavors I hadn't before!), those Rice & Bean chips, and of course Heidi Ho's new nacho cheese :)
Was bummed more places weren't selling their items. I wanted that powdered peanut butter (seems perfect for camping!).

I think Whole Foods has that peanut butter? Maaaaybe. I was surprised at how 'normal' it was! My tree-nut woes kept me from more samples than I'd like, but my stand-outs were the Cinnamon doughnuts and nacho bean chips. I can't seem to remember much else. I did pick up some 2 for $5 teese mozzarella. Speaking of allergies, I liked that tastings were labeled, ingredient-wise, more than ever before.
I watched the last half of that demo (so packed!) and was so inspired...!

I don't know what you look like or I would have given you a biscuit.
I wasn't interested in the Sunday talks so I walked around feeding PPKers. Samples were nice but I wasn't overly excited by anything I tried. I liked the Tofurkey chorizo, the Heido Ho nacho cheese (I hope Food Fight brings back the nacho bar) and some sort of raw macaroon type thing. I wish more places had had takeaways with coupons or company info. Some of the smaller ones I hadn't heard of but they didn't have info to take with me. It was nice to try things from local places I've seen about town but didn't necessarily want to invest in.
In other news, hemp milk is not as bad as I thought.

New things that I still remember: I liked the Blue Lotus Rooibos Masala Chai, the cinnamon donuts, and the Nicobella chocolate truffles. And not new, but I hadn't tried it before - Daiya Havarti.

I'm not crazy about the Nicobella samples I tried a few months ago, but maplecrunch? That's new to me and intriguing!
Alan - you definitely weren't there when I was visited on Saturday or I would have awkwardly waved.
The mint chai = yum
hemp milk - ha ha! I have certainly had some yummy (in a pleasant, chalky way) chocolate and vanilla hemp milk in my day : )
I wish I had a bigger belly to buy some Homegrown Smoker and Green Wok for lunch!

I tried the Daiya havarti wedge and thought it was better than expected. I don't know what i would ever buy it for though.
The Wayfare booth was busy and I never got to try their pudding. I am pretty sure I've had it before (all hail the Amazing Savings) and didn't think it was that great but if you put butterscotch on the container I will always want to try.

I had to leave early on Saturday to find out my cat is now diabetic from the steroids she needs to fight off the ultra-rare immune disorder she contracted. It's all money and heartbreak, but she doesn't seem to care. Cats don't care about shiitake. The positive is that the diabetes is likely temporary and will normalize as we taper off the steroid treatment. /livejournal
