Can anyone recommend a calcium supplement that tastes good/isn't too chalky? I'm thinking either a chewable or a gummy. My intake is nowhere near the RDA so I'll need to get most of the RDA from supplements. (I've just made the switch to vegan from lacto-veg).

I'm making some dietary switches including switching from nigari set tofu to calcium set tofu, hulled tahini to unhulled etc. but I'm still going to need supplements.

I have Calcium Softchews from vegan essentials. They are the leaast gross calcium supplement I've taken. I can't swallow big pills, so I need chewable calcium and these work for me.

Actually, I heard you shouldn't take tums for calcium. I can't remember what class (anatomy or chemistry?) that my teacher mentioned that as well.

It's ok to take tums as a calcium supplement, but they aren't the most easily absorbed form of calcium. Calcium citrate is has the best absorption, but Tums aren't a terrible choice except that the OP wanted something that isn't chalky. Actually, the ones I have are the same form of calcium as tums, but since I know I'll actually take them, it works out better for me.

Oh ok, I thought it was a reason other than bioavailability.

I haven't personally taken any chewable calciums, I just haphazardly take pills once in a while, not the greatest example I am :)

Whole Foods carries them as does Wegman's. Haven't seen them anywhere else yet. I also like that I can choose how much calcium to take based on what I've eaten that day, since each gummy is 100mg of calcium.
