What does the PPK give out to trick or treaters?
I'm sure there's probably a thread, but when I searched for "Halloween candy", I found threads about Halloween, and separately, candy. And Strangers with Candy. If anyone could direct me to a thread, that would be great, too.

we usually give out peanut chews, but i was lazy and didn't want to look in another store after seeing that the one i was in didn't have them. so i got a bag of wonka candy (nerds, gobstoppers, laffy taffy, sweet tarts) and another bag of twizzlers and jolly ranchers of course if you don't want to buy stuff with bone char sugar, you'll have to go with bug bites from endangered species candy or something like that. http://chocolatebar.com/categories.php? ... -Halloween

Fun-size bags of Swedish Fish and Sour Patch kids are available this time of year, and even in my pregan days I would've been psyched to get those on Halloween.

Are Skittles still vegan? Fun-size bags of those are pretty easy to find around this time of year. Or if you want something a little more "natural" you could do organic lollipops. Of course the kids are probably going to vastly prefer something with a shitload of food coloring in it.

i always stock up on fruit leathers and halloween dots, but i don't know why, because i never get any trick or treaters. and i have a giant tub of those organic lollipops in my kitchen all the time anyway, because i love them.

I also love the organic lollipops for myself (and the candy drops made by the same company) and just maaaaaaaybe have a giant jar of them in my house right now. They are totally delicious, but when I was a kid trick-or-treating I probably would have preferred something that made my tongue turn blue. Houses that gave out lollipops were still a thousand times better than the lady who just gave out handfuls of pennies though. :/

There's a lot of yummy vegan candy out there. Sjaak's has some great stuff. Justin's Organic Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter Cups. Holy Cow Vegan Dark Chocolate Beans (like M&M's). Go Max Go makes awesome candy bars. NuGO, as well. Endangered Species Chocolate has some very good vegan stuff, too.

That's delicious stuff, but I can't afford to pass them out to scores of kids! I wish I could pass out homemade stuff, but it'd probably just get tossed. xo kittee

when i was a kid, there was a house that handed out full-sized candy one year, and i knew some kids that would intentionally visit that house multiple times. so take the number of kids that usually visit and easily double that. you'd quickly go bankrupt with full-sized vegan candy!

supercarrot wrote: when i was a kid, there was a house that handed out full-sized candy one year, and i knew some kids that would intentionally visit that house multiple times. Oh, yes! I used to go trick-or-treating with my friend Chris. His costume always consisted of him dressing in dark clothing and wearing a cheap mask. What his parents didn't know was that he would stash several extra masks in his treat bag. So when a house gave out good candy, he would just duck behind a tree, switch out his mask for a different one, and go and ring their doorbell again. No one ever caught on! Last year I got a couple of variety bags that had sweetarts and smarties and laffy taffy. I also got a package of little individual bags of "Halloween pretzels". I bought them because I wanted some pretzels and they were on sale. On Halloween, I threw some bags in the bowl along with the candy, thinking no one would take them. But lots of kids took them. I even heard one kid say, "Whoa! Pretzels! Cool!" So I don't know what is up with kids these days, but apparently some of them really like pretzels.

I am going with sugar candy this year because in the past we had some peanut allergy kids (I assumed by their comments) that were like "awe, more candy I can't eat". So better to keep the chocolate temptations out of my house anyways.
Swedish fish are yummy, I need to find a bag of those.

do the younger kids like sour patch kids? i'd have thought that'd be for a slightly more sophisticated palate.

Often those individually wrapped popcorn balls are vegan (and awesome). They're pretty cheap, too.

supercarrot wrote: do the younger kids like sour patch kids? i'd have thought that'd be for a slightly more sophisticated palate. I think eating sour patch kids requires about the same amount of sophistication that drinking Boons Farm wine requires. Hmmm, they might even go well together. This is my new food and wine pairing! And no, I am not suggesting serving it to children. I always give out Dots because they were one of my favorites to get when I was a kid. They were this weird yummy candy that I only encountered once a year in my trick-or-treat bag, and I loved them and looked forward to them. So the fact that they are vegan, and I can give them out in good conscience, and eat the leftovers, rules the world!

We pass out skittles. If I could find the endangered species chocolates locally I would do that instead.

Thanks for the great ideas, guys. Now if some of that stuff would show up at Grocery Outlet, I'd be set.

We get exactly two trick-or-treaters every year, but I like to get bags of skittles to give out just in case.

He was everyone's favorite and while I don't know of anyone who went multiple times, everyone made sure to stop at his house and people from neighboring towns would come to this town as well.
