so i got my commuter on saturday, and it's a revelation to me! so much faster on the road than my mtb was (but i guess that's no real surprise, just mostly a good feeling for me to make the journeys so much easier now). here it is, pre-pedal fitting:

wow! you guys really are hardcore badazzes! love the pics!
I recently took up cycling, after all my kids were grown. I found a 20 year old mountain bike in my garage and on a whim decided to ride it around the block. Oh, man! Wind in my hair, felt like flying! I *L O V E D* it! And I haven't stopped yet! That was 20lbs ago. It really whipped my vegan butt into shape! I'm 52 years old, and - who knew you could find a new love of cycling at that age! I have tons more energy now and look forward to my little trips more each day (by the way, I can ride for almost an hour now. That's phenomenal for a little old granny, in my not so humble opinion. Haha!)

skinny non knobby tires will sure make pedaling easier :) New bike looks sweet btw! fupapack wrote: I did really well at the cyclocross race last night! nice! racing a ridley for cx?

any time I have pedals and cleats on a table in front of me, they end up as one. and now I'm full of regrets.
oh and hey, I have a bike with gears again. the longer cranks are weirder than the revelation of freewheeling..

anybody tried www.skratchlabs.com products before? I got a bag of the orange (arrived today), and it's (so far) inoffensively tasty and doesn't leave that kind goopy feeling in the mouth. I haven't taken it for a ride, but I'm interested if others have any opinions..

It has been my lifesaver this summer hiking long distances in the heat. 2L of Nuun + 5L of plain water. (I am a camel). I'll keep my eyes open for the stuff you mention. Stuff I don't like (but thought I did): Ultima and Vitalyte.

Bikers, I think I'm starting to get obsessed with bikes (more so, if this is even possible). I just ordered a Surly Cross Check frameset with plans of getting it built up from all the parts worth keeping from my current Fuji.
Hopefully the 46 is the right size. I spent a long time staring at geometry charts and it seems closest in specs to my bike back in Boston while the 50 looks huge?

I didn't ride as much as I had hoped to this summer, because I was doing a physically exhausting job full-time, doing additional work at home every weeknight, and taking summer classes. And the heat. Oh lawd, the heat. But enough excuses! I did reach my goal of riding fifty miles early on in June, but my other rides were never past thirty, I think.

So I ride a 52 Fuji Cross Comp (big) and a 49 Specialized Tricross (good fit). The geometry on the 46 seemed to match the 49 Tricross the best except for a tiny bit longer top tube which is okay as long as it's not the 52 Fuji-length.

I can't remember who was being interviewed, but I heard it on a BBC podcast in July or so? in the same way that most of us aren't influenced by vitamin C when we have a cold? either way, I'm not opposed to a bit of sugar and flavour to mix up the monotony of water, even if I don't *need* it. and, well, mind over matter :) if I climb that hill a minute faster after a quick chug? great!

i agree. i like the using products and seeing what works for you personally. even if its all mental its still a gain.
when riding i rarely if ever use anything in my water unless its a really long ride and im looking for liquid calories. i would like to experiment though but hate having to thoroughly clean my bottles :).

No! But I will now! Also, when riding, I put electrolytes in my Kleen Kanteen and drink water out of a camelback. The kleen kanteen with the sport top is easy to clean. I don't use plastic bottles. Mr. Sz cleans his with bleach.

We've had really weird weather all year - super early spring, ridiculously hot summer, and now it's been perfect fall weather for weeks. Today was 70 and I finally got in a great ride. Fifty perfect miles. I love finding those perfect days when the temperature, the wind, and a day off all cooperate.
