Hey Munichs! I'm trying to pick out a hotel for my stay, and I've narrowed it down to a couple of choices... Two of the hotels are very near Schlosspark Nymphenburg, which is apparently about 20 minutes tram from town. They aren't too pricey and they both look pretty nice... but I"m not sure if I'll feel safe, in the winter when it gets dark so early, coming and going on the tram. What do you think? Another option is called Exquist, though apparently it's rather plain and a bit more expensive, but it's closer to the center (you can see a map here: http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review ... varia.html) - and apparently it's about 10 minutes away from a vegetarian restaurant! I'll only be there two nights - and hopefully I'll be hanging with Anek and maybe others of you at least one of those nights - so maybe it doesn't matter, but any thoughts or advices would be so appreciated. I am really looking forward to Munich Fun! :)

I've never felt unsafe anywhere in Munich no matter how dark and late it was. I've been on the subway at all hours with no problems at all. Also, the area around Schloss Nymphenburger is a middle/high income neighborhood so even less safety issues. Certainly with the Exquist you can't go wrong, as it's bang middle of the city and just behind Max Pett (yummy!), you can walk there easily (and also a perfectly safe area).
Yay for visitors!!! As for things to bring with you, I don't personally need anything as I just got the swap package, but thanks for offering!

Yes, Munich feels pretty safe. The only issue I occasionally have is unwanted male attention, but never to the extent that I felt threatened and this was generally with lots of people around, not walking somewhere in the dark.

Has anything exciting happened in terms of food in Munich since January? I will be around for a few days soon. More importantly, are we having another European meet-up next January?

Yes!!! I discovered that there is a vegan chocolaterie in Münchener Freiheit! All vegan, organic, fair trade. They have the most delicious cakes. It's called Princess Chocolate, and it has weird opening hours (Thur and Fri 12-18, Sat and Sun 12-17) but they also do a brunch on the weekend. Absolutely recommended!

Ye thank you for this link Chipmunk!
I've never been to München -and there seems to be like 7 or 8 vegan places now!? I wish I could be there soon -I'll let you know my favourite places :P
(and what about oktoberfest - it is beginning soon isn't it? ...Ah aaah! Would you recommend yoga or something to get prepared to this terrible crowd?)

Oktoberfest is apparently the 22.9.-7.10. this year. I don't know when you're planning on going, but if you avoid the area around Theresienwiese and the main train station on the weekends it shouldn't be too crowded. The stalls close at about 11pm, so that's when public transport can get a bit full. I'd guess that you wouldn't notice much if you were hanging out in, say Schwabing. Should you want to go to the actual festival, pick a weekday if you don't like being around too many people in one place.

I've never eaten out for breakfast in Munich, but Max Pett does a scramble and a plate of "cold cuts" before 11:30 according to the menu. I guess you can also get vegan Döner from 10 onwards, and there appears to be a hotel at Viktualienmarkt that does vegan brunch.

The Princess Schokobar does a vegan brunch on saturdays and sundays, they open at 12:00. I haven't tried ti, but if I have to judge by their cakes it will be awesome! It's a place worth visting for their cakes for sure, only they have strange opening hours.

Hey Anek & Munchen-ers, I'll be in Munich again for a couple of days in early/mid January. I don't know the exact dates yet, but I'm hoping we can have another little meet up! Once again, I'll probably be there for weeknights, rather than weekends, but hopefully it will work out! Will you be around? xo!

Cafe Ignaz is good, they have a very large vegan menu. The only thing is, their dishes lack something, which I'm not sure if it's salt or oil. I think it's oil, as when I added it to a meh pizza it became awesome. Their cakes are ok too. Certainly worth a visit! Not sure if they do breakfast, but as they have a little cafe plus restaurant, maybe they do.
Ameyfm, I'm sure up for another meeting when you're back! Although I might be going to Australia in January, but I'm not yet sure. I'll know closer to it!

Well, SHOOT. My course in January got cancelled. Because the teacher has been accused - by many women - of sexual & spiritual abuse. :( That's obviously really sad for many reasons - but it's sad for me because I was really looking forward to this trip and this opportunity to learn. ALSO I was looking forward to hanging out in Munich, and seeing my pals. AND because I was looking forward to stocking up big time on more fruit teas and german breads. Generally, the whole affair is sad.
Anek - wasn't there a bunch of stuff from Viva Vegan you wanted? We could do a swap - you could send me fruit teas and I could send you latin goodies. ??? I only have a little of my fruit tea stash left.
