Guy, you have got to be forking kidding me. I don't have a lot of flexibility in my schedule. Sometimes I HAVE to get things done ahead of time or my other option is to get them done late and since you give automatic 0s on anything that's at all late-- and the due date is the start of lecture, awkwardly placed right in the middle of the day-- I don't think it's unreasonable to err on the early side. wow, you must have the worst professor ever. word.

Solo Paper #1 came back from the editor. Again. With more major/minor revisions. Again. I know publishing is a slow, long process. But I'm pretty sure I'm ready for this to be done and accepted already. Etc.

It took nine months for my paper to actually be accepted and totally done from the point I submitted! Talk about your paper living up to being like your baby...

So my supervisor was absent from my internship today. Exact same circumstances from two weeks ago that led to all the nonsense. Crossing my fingers that only good feedback comes through.

oh my god I am really going to throw up, what am I thinking? the application process is going to be rough as hell, each of the (print-specific) programs I'm applying to have 3-5 positions available and get upwards of 200 applicants each term. oh god.

The worst thing that can happen is that you don't get in... In which case, you're no worse off than you are now. So try!! And good luck!
About crazy professorman: the thing that kills me is that he has like 2% sheer genius hidden under the 98% impossible to learn from. Which I guess is how he got his job in the first place! I like his ideas a lot, I just wish I could learn them from someone who shouted less and had fewer bizarre email rules.

I'm not a grad student (yet!) but my irritating, boundless enthusiasm is overwhelming and no one (aside from coworkers) shares it, so to the PPK I turn. I just got the proofs for my undergrad thesis back from the journal it got accepted to! Suddenly it feels real with everything formatted and pretty and my name on it and everything! 2.5 years of my life in beautiful, beautiful .pdf form.

Argh. Proofreading (I did miss some typos after all!) and re-editing my MA thesis for publication (by a small print-on-demand service, but still!). I hate checking page references. And I need an author pic.

On the verge of dropping out. The sad thing is it's not because of grades or workload. It's because I kind of want to be back in the US.

What city are you in finnophile? You're studying in Canada, right? I would say to be gentle on yourself and give it a bit of time before dropping out and returning. Of course, maybe you will feel the same in several months, but it does take some time to adjust, get used to whatever city you are in and make friends and build up a support network when you move somewhere and you don't know anyone (I think I remember reading that this was your situation?). What do you miss about being in the US that you aren't finding where you are now?

I'm in Waterloo. Making friends up here was easier than I thought. For the first time in a looooong time I fit in. However, the classes aren't as fun as I was expecting.
My main problem is having to pay taxes in 2 different countries (I'm a TA so the US government wants money too) and there are some issues with driving up here. I feel like school in the USA would have been easier.

Urrg fork insomnia. Early morning tomorrow, and the amount of work I need to do over the next two weeks is quite daunting, and I can't get the fork to sleep. I don't have time for this.

For me it usually helps to do 10-15 minutes of breathing/relaxation exercises when my mind won't stop going over all the stuff I have to do the next day. I meditate myself to sleep.

I did a terrible job leading the review session today. It was a class of 80 and they had no respect for me at all. I was so nervous I blanked to 2 questions I was asked. I hate being a TA. I hate it.

It's hard when students don't respect you, or the other students in the class for that matter. I haven't quite figured out the right way to get a tutorial/class of first years back on topic when they start being noisy.
Just had a meeting with supervisor for the current mini-project which I need to finish in two weeks. There's a lot of work to be done, but I'm feeling pretty good about my ability to do it. Assuming, of course, that I can somehow rise above the ongoing distractions of coursework and TAing.

OMG OMG OMG. As if I wasn't multitasking enough already. The class I'm supposed to be co-teaching next year (!) might be re-rescheduled to this semester (which has already started!!!) because a visiting professor won't show up after all. I wish I didn't need sleep!

12 days until miniproject writeup needs to be done. Still need to finish playing with my data so that I'll actually have results. Also, TA work and course work is crazy bonkers. Entering panic mode.
I have tickets to go to a concert with a friend on Friday but I'm thinking I'm going to have to skip it. Hopefully he isn't too offended.

Good news! I had a phone call with my advisor earlier and he said that he spoke with my supervisor, who is very pleased with how I've risen to the occasion! Holla!
