OK, so I decided to give Braindead /Dead Alive another shot. There is not a single aspect of that film that is good. Bad acting, bad special effects, almost no plot to speak of yet I still somehow managed to thoroughly enjoy it. Probably because a.) I've really warmed up to the ultra-violent gore stuff over the past few years (still hate Hostel and the lion's share of the Saw films) b.) we were playing "drink if it looks fake". Yeah, the whole movie looks fake. Even the fake trolley cars and airplanes.

Also watched the Descent pt. 2. Not impressed as is often the case with horror films.

I watched this last weekend! It was SO GOOD!

Holy cow, that was a fun movie.

Picture to make people who have seen it laugh:

Yes! It was awesome!

I think I'm going to force myself to have a movie/horror movie fest starting Thursday, since my wisdom teeth are coming out and there will be nothing else to do. Hellraiser is happening, and I think maybe Battle Royale (not sure how scary that is, but it's on the list).

I'm going to write a list of horror movies to watch when I'm post-op next week. Thought I'd take the time to catch up on classics I haven't seen yet. I have The Shining, Hellraiser and The Thing on my list so far.

Battle Royale wasn't really scary nor do I think it was intended to be. Entertaining, gory and captivating, but not scary.

Oh, okay. I realized today I haven't seen Evil Dead. I'm gonna get on that.

Watched Woman in Black yesterday. A little uncomfortable to watch, but mainly boring. The ending sucked.

OMG. Finally watched Pontypool. Super fun. Especially for linguists.
(Okay, the "solution" was a bit dodgy, in my opinion, but what the hell. Still love the idea!)

I just received a bunch of horror (a lot of horror comedy) DVD's and plan to watch those as well as silly TV specials when they begin airing. I watch some of the Halloween movies every year and Nightmare on Elm Street. I don't know if it's been mentioned but Trick 'r Treat is really good and a perfect Halloween movie.

Also, old episodes of Tales from the Crypt.

Trick r Treat is pretty much THE perfect Halloween movie. I'm saving that for a bit closer to Halloween if not on Halloween itself.

Saw The Craft last night. Total 90s teen-scream. I could have sworn I'd seen it before, but nothing looked familiar. I enjoyed it a lot, though. Not enough witch movies out there. Neat that it had Neve Campbell and Skeet Ulrich in it who played the couple of Sidney Prescott and Billy Loomis in Scream.

Sometimes there are movies that I've never seen but thought I had- in reality, I had seen so many pop culture references to the movie that I had essentially watched it through memes, memorable quotes, etc.

Oh, man, there is a special place in my heart for The Craft. Part of it might be my crush on Fairuza.

Yes. I owned this on VHS when I was a kid.

Husband took me to see The Possession for my birfday yesterday. It was really good for a new horror movie.

I thought Insidious was ok (an homage to Poltergeist, including the steak on the face at one point, nice touch), but I'm totally interested in seeing Sinister. Anyone else?

Ok, now I don't have to be embarrassed about not having seen The Shining anymore. The Stanley Kubrick version that is. I liked it a lot. I want to live in a hotel like that. All alone, without the spooky people.

I'm interested! I really like that modern horror seems to be moving away from serial killer/torture movies and back to monsters where it belongs.

Ach, you MUST see the Shining! Some of Kubrick's and Jack Nicholson's best. I even often refer to The Shining as my favorite movie of all time (though, that title really probably should go to Star Wars).

Watched Apartment 143 last night. Another "found footage" type film. More paranormal investigators in yet another "haunted" home. Directors keep cranking out these films, yet they always give me a few good scares. This one has it's moments, but nothing fans of the horror haven't seen before.

Anybody thinking of watching The Tall Man, don't bother. It's not a horror flick in the least. It has a couple "twists" and is a little interesting, but it's not even close to how it's represented in the trailer.

Yes! Looks like it could be very good.

Absolutely agree. Not at all a fan of the Hostel-type movies.

So so so, Halloweenish things I've seen lately:

The Fearless Vampire Killers
Idle Hands
Hocus Pocus
Addams Family Values

For anyone who is claustrophobic, the European version (English I think) of The Vanishing scared the crepe out of me. The American version has a slightly less disturbing end.

Hah, yes! We had to compare these once for a film class on remakes. The American version is not bad, though. Just less disturbing.

Can anyone recommend a haunting type of horror movie that I haven't seen already (or that's good enough to watch again), apart from The Devil's Backbone? I must stress I don't want things jumping out at me - horror is about being creeped out (preferably slowly), not about being startled.

I also have to rewatch GhostWatch (it's on youtube in its entirety). I found it ridiculous until I realized what they'd done to present Pipes... and afterwards I had to cross a dark hallway with a window that reflected me... Now that's what I'm searching for.
