So I was looking up gluten-free flour and found this:

http://www.glutenfreeflour.com/ingredients.asp

It lists the ingredients as "blended flour of rice and tapioca flours, xanthan gum, and kosher approved unflavored gelatin".

I had read somewhere (one of those wiki-answers type sites, not necessarily a reliable source) that some gelatin is rice based and not animal based.

Is this true? I though that all gelatin was animal derived? If it was plant based I’d think that they'd call it something else lol

I am very new to gluten-free stuff so I thought this may be one of those things that you just learn along the way...

Also, is gelatin in flour a common thing? I never thought to check the ingredients on flour…

Thanks :)

In the FAQ's on their website I found this:

"Is the gelatin vegetable or animal base?
The gelatin is a beef derived and certified as Kosher by the manufacturer."

So that answers my question about this flour being safe or not... I am still curious if gelatin can be plant derived, and if it is common in flour...

Weird! I would imagine it has excellent effects on the results but I'm fine without my beef gelatin! ;)
