For no reason that has nothing to do with my VeganMoFo theme. It can't be microwaved and it has to be in a cup. Will a regular old coffee cup stand up to the heat? Should I just get ramekins and be a faker? I don't want anything exploding in my oven because i'm lazy and don't want to clean up gooey food and broken shards of glass.

I tried with normal pottery (a plate) and it exploded at low temperature. I guess glass, if thick enough, should probably stand it.

We have some coffee cups that are oven safe and some that aren't. Did you check the bottom? Some might specify whether it's okay.

Stoneware should be okay in the oven. Just depends on what kind of coffee cups you have, I guess.

I cook in dishes often by fashioning a stove-top steamer. In a large pot, I place either a metal rack or a plate. Then I pour in water to just below the depth of the plate or rack, cover with a heavy fitting lid and let the water boil. To cook or heat my food, I place it in a cup, plate or bowl inside the pot and cover. This has always worked great for me and I have relied on this method for years as I don't like using a microwave and I live alone so sometimes I don't want to crank up the over for just a small amount of food. I have not yet baked using this method but if you were baking something that you wanted to keep moist, like cake, it would be perfect.
If the food you are baking needs to brown, like something with a potpie crust, I would recommend you put your cup in a water bath in the oven.
I hope this helps and I look forward to seeing how your MoFo creation turned out.

i don't think i'd put any non-pyrex glass in the oven. stoneware, yes. mugs are tricky since some are crummy and badly made and not really made for that kind of heat (you might ruin the paint) i would do the ramekin, personally, or else try cooking some other way (like steaming)

I don't even know if I would put a stoneware mug in the oven. Don't most mugs have some type of coating on them or a glaze? Honestly, I'd be scared to put any kind of mug in the oven!

I would just bake it in a washed out soup or bean tin and then transfer to the cup, and pretend I baked it in there (because I am a cheating cheater cheat-face).

I put a mug on my glasstop cooker once (extraordinary laziness on my part) and the bottom fell right off where the parts were joined. You could cheat with a silicone muffin cup?

If it is a thrown stoneware mug that has been fired to a high cone temperature it would be fine. Some ceramics are fired up to 1800F so a 350 in the oven won't hurt it if it is placed in a cold oven and brought up to temp. If you aren't sure of what you have I wouldn't try it though. I would get a ramekin and then transfer to a cup after baking.

My Silent Hill mugs say nothing about baking at the bottom. I've seen people bake in mugs on blogs but I have like, four mugs and they are all special. I don't really want to risk them exploding. I think this might be my best bet, but i'd have to put the things i'm baking into a cup and they will be filled with things and not topped. And I am so, so clumsy. http://www.amazon.com/Wilton-Cup-Kingsi ... aking+cups
