So my boyfriend always is talking about those good ol' Jack In The Box taco days...Loading up on those and fries. My mom who loves those damn things told me she would make them for my sister and said it is easy. So I tried it. Here is my veganized JITB plate - well actually the boyfriends (I could not eat that many tacos - he barely was able too!)....

Ahh! This is the best food porn EVER! When I was younger, I practically lived off of Jack Tacos. We'd order like 40 tacos (often requiring more than one stop) and bring them to parties to share with everyone. I've been meaning to veganize them, but never really bit the bullet on how to approach it. I think I might follow your recipe this weekend but with a TVP and/or Gimme Lean mixture instead of beans.

I saw these on your blog a little while ago and now they are all I can think about.

The only thing they're missing are the giant slices of orange cheese with the corners peeking out of the shells...

I know about the sliced cheeze thing - however the sliced cheeze I had access to is just not good - I had Daiya shreds here and I am really into minimizing and using up all the food I buy. I bought those school cheeze slices once and they just sat in the fridge after the boyfriend said never use them in his lunch again.

If you choose to use soy protein grounds - you may want to mash them up and get them into a finer meal texture. Also pre frying them to brown them in oil might help. My mom who is omni says she would just use beans. To me the beans are fine.

I think the weird orange "cheese" slices only come in the deluxe JitB tacos, not the 2 for 99 cent ones, lol!

My boyfriend said the same thing...I wanted to stay classic - who wants deluxe when you can get two cheap ones for under a $1! :P

I've never had Jack In The Box since we don't have them around here but I keep coming back to look at this photo and am definitely going to be making these soon. I REALLY like your idea for mofo.

Monster Tacos! At least what they're called here. And I think the 99 cent ones do have a bit of shreds in them, but it's such a small amount you probably wouldn't even notice if it's gone.

They were bad...but in a really good way. I was one of those teenagers that was a terrible flip-flop vegetarian. I didn't eat much meat for a few years, and I heard that the tacos were MOSTLY soy, so I would eat them all the time and tell myself they were vegetarian.

I liked to put french fries inside of them.

OK - now that sounds good. I like tot-chos (tater tot nachos) and fries inside burgers...Fry-tacos! MMMM!
