I couldn't find any info online about the federal elections and our voter guide hasn't come in yet, anyone happen to know where I can read about the federal election options?

In Maryland, question 6 will probably be the big one as it allows for same sex marriages.

On the radio, I've only been hearing about question 7 though which would allow for expansion of the gambling laws. As it would only be allowing for video terminals and table games. I don't see the reason to be against it. Casinos already exist in surrounding states.

To add on here - I just requested my absentee ballot- anyone outside of the US, depending on your state it may not be too late to request your ballot. the Federal Voting assistance program website has super easy step-by-step instructions.
From my consular bulletin about elections:

Almost all overseas U.S. citizens can vote. Twenty-two states and the District of Columbia now allow adult children who have never resided in the United States to vote using their parents' state of voting residence. Details are available on the FVAP website at http://www.fvap.gov/reference/nvr-res.html.
Register and request a ballot. To vote, new laws require you to complete and submit a Federal Post Card Application (FPCA) this calendar year. The FPCA allows you to register to vote and request an absentee ballot. If you haven't yet done so, we urge you to do so now. The easiest way to complete it is online at www.FVAP.gov. Depending on your State's rules, you then send it to your local election officials electronically or by mail.

And I don't know if this is a Maryland only thing but this year, voting starts on October 27th at various predetermined locations, which may or may not be your normal polling place. I'm hoping to do early voting myself.

Super annoyed that because I've lived abroad for too long my county stopped letting me vote in local elections. I can only vote for federal stuff (president, senators, rep.).

Really? If you don't mind my asking, what was their time limit?

Yeah, that happened to my sister as well. Apparently, the laws for voting overseas vary from state to state. My sister was registered in NY, and she can now only vote in federal elections. I've been overseas longer but am registered in WA, and I can still vote for everything on the ballot including city government and local voter initiatives.

I'm going to get out ahead of this one and say this is the thread for this year's election. Talk about early voting! Talk about last minute electioneering! Talk about that thing Mitt Romney said! Talk about Michelle Obama's shoes! Talk about the overimportance of Ohio and how the electoral college should be dismantled! Freak out! (in a good or bad context) Talk about pundits on TV freaking out!

I sent my ballot in a couple weeks ago. I'm not particularly worried about WA State in the presidential elections, but I was really happy to be able to vote to approve Referendum 74! And I'm always happy when I get to vote for Jim McDermott again.

I'm going to try to stay up all night and watch the coverage. The first results won't start coming in until about 3 am here, so we'll see how long I last, but I have no plans for Wednesday, so I don't have to worry about being a zombie the next day. In 2008 I fell asleep on the couch at some point but remember waking up just in time for them to call it for Obama!

I'm really excited to watch. So I guess this is how other people feel about watching, say, the Superbowl?

I do like Jim McDermott. I'm sooo anxious for the R74 results! It was polling very strong a few weeks ago, but the local news called it a close race more recently and Ii haven't been able to find any more recent poll results. The anti-74 ad campaign has been ridiculously weak.

Since reading about it, I haven't been able to get over my indignation that some jerks decided to even call for this referendum! The bill passed, dammit! Here's hoping those jerks get their asparagi handed to them on a plate.

And I mentioned in another thread that I hadn't heard any advertisement against Question 6 in MD but another PPker saw some on tv. I did see a few signs put up over the past week.

Oh man, I hope so! The pro-74 campaign has been great, with pastors and Republican legislators and stuff, talking about how they came to embrace the idea. There are even Yes on 74 messages and signs at the majority of the churches around me. And then I remember that Seattle isn't the only city voting on it...

Yup, we have the dingbats on my side of the cascades to deal with! Although there's a group of strong R74 supporters here, there are an awful lot of dogmatic conservatives in Spokane. I rely on Seattle voters to make sure the eastern conservatives don't drag Washington back into the dark ages.

Yeah, I lived in Spokane for 7 years. It's not just the eastern conservatives, though. During the '08 elections did you guys have those Dino Rossi signs that said "Don't let Seattle steal this election!"? If I left Seattle in any direction I'd see one within an hour.
