I know I don't usually post in the Exercise forums, but I didn't realise there was a P90x thread!

DLD wrote:
What do you guys know about this rev abs thing? In terms of how well it works.
I've been doing the P90X ab ripper X workout for over 2 years now. I assume by now I have a totally ripped six-pack, it's just hiding for safety under a nice soft layer of fat...

I don't know anything about Rev Abs, either, but I've been doing ab-ripper every other day for about 15 weeks and the difference it's made is pretty crazy, especially with my obliques. I'm tempted to post before/after photos, but I don't want to scare anyone with my before photo (okay, it's not *that* bad, but, you know).
The only other exercise I do regularly is some yoga videos from iTunes/exercise TV and some free work-out videos I got from iTunes. (I haven't tried P90x other than ab-ripper -- a friend of mine sent me her spare copy and I love it.)

Ab Ripper X is pretty amazing. I'm only on Day 18 of P90X, which means I've done Ab Ripper roughly 8 times and I already see a difference. This includes the first three times where my total reps didn't even cross 200 total (I think it's like 330+ reps if you can keep up with them). Amazing stuff for 15 minutes every other day.

The first time I did ab-ripper, instead of just sitting it out, I would pause it, catch my breath, and then hit play again. My thighs were so sore, I couldn't walk properly (or do ab-ripper) for 5 days!

Rev Abs arrived yesterday! Too sick to try today, but tomorrow I will. Since I've heard it's not hard enough, I think I'll do my regular Insanity workout and then try that after. Both (this round) are in the 30-40 minute range so it shouldn't be too bad to do together. We'll see!

Wow. Last week we moved to sweat 3-4 and this week sculpt 3-4, and the difference is intense. I'm glad we a doing p90 instead of jumping into p90x right away. This is week 5 for us, and I haven't noticed a huge visible change yet, but I feel so much stronger and generally better.

I hope you feel better, RJM!

Good job Fizzgig!

I tried one dvd so far of Rev Abs, I think it was Fire Up Your Abs. I wasn't a fan but that's only one video, and I think the phase 2 workouts will probably be better for me. I'll try another tomorrow. Also, I don't know what is going on with me but I am having so much trouble getting through the phase 1 Insanity workouts! Like just a few weeks ago I was finishing phase 2 and doing pretty well, and now I'm struggling with phase 1? I don't get it!

I did RevAbs Power Interval 1 today after Insanity Cardio Power and Resistance. This one was better, especially as a way to slowly cool down from Insanity while still moving significantly. The video was pretty much squat thrusts, cross jacks, and lunges with weights repeated several times. Not very challenging or creative, but probably a good program for beginners. I like it as a post-Insanity cool down so far.

Hey Randi that's interesting. From your description though it doesn't sound much like an ab workout??
Oh and greetings from Guaruja, Brazil. A beach resort an hour or so east of Sao Paulo, adding to the places I've done P90X and other beachbody workouts, getting strange looks from the locals. I'm in week 7 or 8, I think, of the 90-day Body Beast program. I haven't been able to weigh myself in a few days, but I'm definitely getting big and lifting more each week. I've almost memorized the proper weights in kilograms I've been traveling so much! I'm hoping to do another immersion body mass test next week when I'm back home in California.

Awesome DLD! So jealous of your traveling! And so happy for your results.
I realized why I've been huffier and puffier! Two weeks ago, my doctor took me off my iron supplements that I started taking when P90X gave me sports anemia. And the whole purpose of iron is to better transport oxygen in the blood to your lungs, right? Makes so much sense!

I decided to buy Body Pump, not sure if anyone else has it? The barbell is smaller than the olympic barbells I'm used to and my shoulder flexibility isn't all that great so I'm not that used to the grip but it works. I wanted to use this to supplement my gym workouts for days that I need a quick workout and can't be bothered to go to the gym or need to stay at home for various reasons.

I am going to see how it goes but I'm eyeing a 5 ft Olympic barbell on Amazon for $50. I have Olympic weights at home and I did my second workout today with 10 lbs. I'll see how the future workouts go but if I need to increase weight beyond the 15 lbs it comes with, it is cheaper for me to buy a new barbell. I have a 7 ft Olympic barbell but I'm not sure it is the best for a fast paced workout like this.

I f-ing sprained my ankle again (chronically weak from spraining it like at least once a year for 15 years?)! It just gave out during Plyo Circuit this morning and I had to stop with 15 minutes left, but then it felt ok so I played tennis on it all afternoon...and now I realize how stupid that was. I'm so mad and it hurts so much I can't even limp, I have to crawl around. UGhhhh! I really need to see an orthopedic specialist or something about this. And take calcium.

You and me, both in the infirmary! I was doing Bulk: Shoulders on Saturday afternoon at the hotel in Sao Paulo, and I pulled something in my right chest. I'm not even sure why my right chest thought it needed to participate in the Shoulders routine. Probably I had some bad form, straining for extra reps. But it's been killing me ever since, especially lifting bags up and down from the carry-on bins on the flights to Washington and then back to San Francisco. Yesterday was rest day, but today I was supposed to do Chest. I think I gotta skip it. Argh. At least I'm home, getting ready to go to Whole Foods and get some real food in the fridge. Brazil was pretty cool, but nearly 100% of my nutrition was coming from shakes and bars in my luggage. I did like the Caipirinhas though...

Oh no feel better DLD! Definitely rest. I've learned (sort of), it's best not to push and worsen the injury. Damn. Are we getting old or something?

Yes! Better!
I really cannot do this rest thing. I f-ing hate it. I haven't done P90X workouts since June, so I think I'll do the strength ones the rest of this week, and maybe yoga by the weekend. Which one uses feet the least (e.g. no clapping push-ups) for tomorrow, Shoulders & Arms maybe? I do like Daniel Haas. :) I'm very excited to see Bobby again.

Hey Randi how's the ankle? I think you're right -- do the upper body stuff on P90X to save your legs. I'm taking another day off entirely because of my chest. I'm going a little crazy but I figure it needs to heal. Really sucks though as I'm home and I hate to miss days working out at home.

It's getting better, thanks, but still not ready for Insanity. I miss it! I did Shoulders & Arms today and it was so boring, so long. But it's good to get back to actual strength training.

Good article! This one really seemed to focus more on the social aspects of the community more than the plant-heavy diet. Interesting. And all research like this always praises the miraculous benefits of honey and it makes me sad. The tiny impact of exercise doesn't surprise me, though these people are probably much more active just throughout the day, never sitting down to watch tv and what not.

I finally was able to do Insanity again after a week off for the ankle injury. Man alive it was so hard! Can a week off really be responsible for making me soo hufflepuffy? The one thing I have noticed, re long-term results, is that I can do power jumps all through the intervals! A few months ago, I could barely get through one round, and now I can do them almost the whole time! Yayyy.

Hey good for you for getting back into it! Especially keeping up your fitness on the power-jumps.
You inspired me, so I tried out the bulk:chest workout this afternoon, at my hotel in Connecticut (I seem fated to be near hurricanes this year...). Hmmm, I'm not sure I should have worked out. My chest is hurting again. I could tell right away it was tweaky, on the very first moved, so I backed way off the weights and reps, didn't really go for total burnout. But it's still aching now. I hope I didn't re-injure something. I thought 8 days off ought to be enough to heal. I guess I'll know tomorrow. Eating lots of protein powder...

Oh no!! I hope it heals quickly. Guess muscle pulls take longer to heal. Take it easy, maybe just do legs if you need to do something? (Or rest!) I too am in the path of the hurricane, waiting till the power goes out. I'm contemplating using my laptop to work out if the power goes out, but since my battery only lasts <3 hours, I wouldn't be able to use it for anything else. Ughh I hope this isn't too bad. Stay safe, both in terms of the injury and the hurricane!

Yeah? Is it raining where you are? It's just a bit windy here in SE Connecticut. No rain yet. I bought a candle at the airport -- ha ha, as if that will help. Plus I have 24 protein bars, 2 huge bags of Vega shakes (one protein, one regular) powder, some dried fruit, 3 bags of granola, and some crackers I brought with me. I can probably live 3-4 days just out of my suitcase!
I'll do Legs tomorrow. But even that means holding on to heavy dumbbells for a long time. I'll just take it easy, see how it feels. I don't mind a little ache as long as I'm not making something worse.
