I had the same thought, I had the impression that once you were bit by a zombie that was it, nothing you can do. I thought the scene with the convicts was well done. For a second you couldn't tell if they were alive or dead......very creepy, very well done.

I have to agree with the other poster, a scene where Lori's stillborn baby eats her from the inside out would be kickass, even if distaste for Lori was not an issue.

Carl and Lori, super annoying already! And why is she running around holding her stomach like the baby is gonna fall out of her any second? This really makes me want to see a zombie baby eat its way out of her womb.

Maybe her baby bump is just jumping all over the place, like running without a bra.

Does that happen? Guess because its a fake baby bump it would.

I don't know. I'm just making shiitake up.

I think it is rare for babies to be born with teeth, but if you have having walking corpses I think you can have a stillborn babie eating up Lori from the inside out.

So uh I guess the show is out of the lull, then? That was pretty awesome.

It's kind of becoming a video game, too. Next level: ZOMBIES IN RIOT ARMOR! WHOOO!

Anyway, that was pretty decent and now I'm actively looking forward to it, despite basically every protagonist aside from Glenn and Maggie and wossname with the crossbow being annoying.

Yeah, I know there was some confusion over this last season. But if the virus is in them already, then what's a lil zombie bite gonna do?

I thought the zombie bite turned them instantly, whereas the virus in their bodies would only turn them if they died from other causes. No?

I don't think there is a virus. I mean, there's no virus that can make you keep crawling around with half your flesh rotted off, your legs missing, and your guts trailing out behind you. I think that's just the CDC guy's way of rationalizing the clearly supernatural zombies.

They're just acting like classic Romero zombies: a zombie bite will kill you, but if you die by any means, you'll come back as a zombie.

It seems to me like no one becomes a zombie till they die, maybe? Like, they get bit, and then it takes a while for them to turn. Like what happened with Andrea's sister. She seemed like she was dying and then turned at the same time. So, maybe if he doesn't die, he doesn't turn? But really, they don't know what the fork is going on, so I think Rick's rationale was that he either tried cutting of his leg to stop it from spreading or else Hershel was going to turn for sure.


What I kind of don't get from the preview for next week is, if you found out that there were more humans, wouldn't you be kind of excited? Why is there going to be some big battle for the prison? Unless there's really no food left, can't they share? (I'm probably really naive in my post-apocalyptic reasoning)

If there's no virus then that's dumb so Mumbles is wrong. I don't even think he watches it.

Virus is dumber than no virus! I mean, THINK ABOUT THIS. If somebody shoots a zombie in the heart, they just keep on going. Is there a virus that can pump your blood for you? Keep your muscle cells from dying without oxygen? Your brain, for that matter?

No, no there is not. A virus is a stupid explanation for Romero zombies. Which is why I'm right.

It was a mistake for the writers to even bring it up, which is probably why the writers who did all got fired. Mumbles' first rule of supernatural fiction: any explanation is worse than no explanation.

Maybe a virus is dumb but saying that there is a virus and then there is none is even dumber. So there's a virus. And of course there is no virus that can do all that that's why this is a tv show about zombies. God, I hate you.

But did they actually say there's a virus? Had the CDC guy isolated it? I ask because I don't know because that episode was dumb and I was barely paying attention. You have so much emotional intelligence.

Wait, are we assuming that they guy from the CDC saying "It's inside all of us" meaning it's a virus? I took that to mean that there is some type of genetic mutation happening to the human race.

And I agree with IJDI. I just rewatched some of the first season this weekend and when they were at the CDC Jenner shows them the example of what happens after someone gets bit. They slowly die and then slowly come back as a zombie. But I'm guessing the question is what made them die? Do they die from the wound or do they die from an "infection"? If you are going on an infection theory then Rick would have been right to cut off Hershel's leg before the infection could spread. If there is no infection to worry about then he just cut his leg off for no reason. And now he is probably going to die anyway from loss of blood and no proper medical treatment. So it looks like Hershel is a goner at this point.

I knew Mumbles didn't even watch it.

i always assumed the zombification occurred as a result of the transmission of some kind of blood-borne infective agent, and i figured they cut off hershel's leg to keep it from entering his circulation. that at least makes some medical sense. i'd try it, i guess, if i were in that position. but i've been confused about how they could all be infected with a virus without developing symptoms. like, if infection through a bite/scratch makes you sick and gives you a fever and kills you and then brings you back to demilife, how does whatever they've contracted through airborne exposure lie completely dormant? but i haven't been griping about it, because if i can accept that any virus can do something to your body that will allow it to walk around and somehow digest tons and tons of meat even though the meat it is made of is rotting and falling away all over the place, i should let that tiny detail go. BUT I CAN'T. it vexes me. i am terribly vexed.

Zombies: I guess they're pretty stupid, when you think about it.

See I don't think they are going with an infection or virus because throughout all of the seasons regular humans have gotten zombie blood and guts all over them without contracting anything.

In say, 28 Days Later those zombies were contagious. And when the guy got a drop of zombie blood in his eye he turned zombie! But in this case I think the fear isn't that a zombie will infect you it's just that they will eat the shiitake out of you!

But I'm also in the I have no idea camp because I feel like they don't want you to know. It's not supposed to be about how and why, just what happens as a result of a zombie apocalypse happening. And how human beings survive and deal with the outfall.

but rick says "we're all infected" when he's telling them about what happened at the cdc. if it's not an infection, that's some highly effective misdirection.

Or he's just been misinformed.
