I am totally rampaging right now. Bad evening (see worst thread if you are morbidly curious) and hideous, horrific cramps from hell, my box of cookies spilled off my car seat onto the floor when a crasshole driver decided to slamm on the breaks just as a green light turned yellow. I came home so pissed off and angry at everything, including the sky, trees, and kamikaze nut throwing squirrels, and into the house to
A lovely, lovely bowl of tofu scramble and fried potatoes. And a hot water bottle.
Aaaah. <3 mom (she claims it was an act of self-preservation)

bunch of little good things adding up to a really solid day which I haven't had for a while -had a 50-minute long studio visit with a one of the directors of SPACE in portland who told me I was pretty much ready to show my work in galleries. -4 people complimented me on my bike -got a bunch of printing done for my boss -got payed and was able to make rent!
excellent day.

I rescued a sweet, old dog tonight! She was near a freeway on ramp in a non-residential area, with a collar and dragging her leash. Her tags were expired so there was no info at the animal shelter. We were already to take her home for the night and start the search tomorrow when we saw a couple of homeless men with a dog. We stopped, by chance, to ask if they recognized her and they did! Knew her name and everything! They took her back to her owner, who lived in a tent near the freeway ramp. They said he would be very happy to have her back. YAY!! And I got some bonus doggy lovin'!

So far, getting drooled on by a cute guy. He's 4 months old so he can get away with it.

Lately, Fred and I have been seriously talking about getting a dog, mostly because I want an animal friend, but also dogs are a great deterrent against thieves. After being burglarized twice in 4 months, we're taking every precaution we can. We actually just found out on Wednesday that we are probably moving tomorrow. Fred found a listing on Craigslist earlier this week that he thought might have been the apartment above us. That would have been ideal, since we lovelovelove our place, but need to get off the ground floor. It's on the second floor of a different building, but only a block or so away. Thankfully, our landlord is cool with the switch. But as soon as we're settled, we're definitely going to get a pup. We've been looking at some of the local shelters and Petfinder for dogs, but today I heard of another option.
I found out tonight that one of the guys at work does rescue work for pit bulls and other bully breeds. He's not affiliated with any sort of rescue agency, he just does it totally out of his own pocket because he just loves them that much. He'll scour Craigslist for people selling or giving away bullies, will spend his own money to get them out of the situation, and then finds good homes for them. I love this about him, because it's such a wonderfully unexpected compassionate and noble thing to do. Makes my black heart swell a little bit.

I got chalkboard paint at the hardware store which made me so happy. I'm giving the rest to sisterlegume and that made her happy.

Wow! He sounds incredible Kara! Believe me, a dog with presence like a pit bull will do wonders for your sense of security. I had problems before but someone I know knew I needed security for peace of mind so he bought me a German Shepherd. Here a dog like that is majorily feared and you can't even have them in public unless they are muzzled regardless of how sweet they are. So yeah, nobody is going to come into my house! There may be dog hair on everything I own and muddy paw prints over my carpet but the peace of mind is incredible. I used only get 3 hours sleep a night before her and would jump awake when the neighbours did so much as close a door in their house. Now I can get text messages, have the dog open my bedroom door and get in beside me and I don't notice at all. She is better than any sleeping tablet. As for me, I've been putting off calling the plumber to fix my 2 toilets that won't flush since it will probably cost about €100 for a minor repair. I'm getting desperate now since I have no working loo in the upstairs of the house so I spent some time on google and youtube. I sourced what the problem is and it is going to cost me €1.79 per toilet to fix. Major saving!

I had a pretty good day overall, but I am really pleased that even though every fiber in my being was opposed to it, I made myself sit down at the laptop with the deal that I'd work for either an hour or until my lab report was done, which ever came first. And? I finished the lab report with 5 minutes to spare. Wooo!

I had my job dialogue today. I also finally got feedback from my team leader about my interview a couple weeks ago. I went through an emotional rough patch this summer, so not knowing how I would deal with the stress was the primary reason I didn't get the job. He was really impressed with how well I handled doing most of the buying while our main wine buyer was out of town for two weeks. I even got a bonus for doing such an awesome job! And that's on top of the raise I also got! And! I might get retro pay since my job dialogue was about 3 months past due!
