Surely there's an old thread for this already somewhere.... Since having a kid, I have been relegated to coming up with something (typically on the fly) that goes along with whatever my four year old daughter dreams up to take her trick-or-treating as we never had parties to attend these days. Last year she was Spiderman....girl, and I was Firestar (with a fever in 80something degree weather at night no less). This year I am so damn proud of how I managed to pull of her idea for her sans sewing machine that I have to share with nerdy folks like us who may actually get who she is. Took her to an early even tonight and one two year old girl and her dad lit up when they saw her and it made her so happy that that's good enough for me, but check out my little borrower Arrietty she was adamant that she wanted to be her, and I was super excited to try. not sure if you can see the giant sugar cube in her bag and the big black ant eating from it. she wanted me to cut a giant elephant ear from our yard to use as 'an umbrella', but the even we were going to was so packed full of people, I'm glad I was able to talk her out of it. A few adjustments to the beast of the hair clip I made (out of old cracker boxes, woot!) and Halloween night should be perfection! I wish you could see the little tabs that the straightpin/sword slide into. i need to shorten it tho as it was draggin on the ground. Suddenly I'm glad we had this first run, even if it was mayhem at the event. I'm thinking of just going as KiKi from KiKi's Delivery Service (red bow, dark dress, red shoes, broom with black cat, done!) unless anyone has a better idea that's just as easy. I love Halloween! What are your kiddos requesting this year?

I don't know who that is, but she sure is cute! Silas is a rocket this year. He was going to be a dinosaur using Shae's old costume, but the zipper broke on the way out the door (vintage handmade costume! sad!) so I grabbed from the clearance costumes I bought for dress up and he ended up having so much fun with it. Jumping up and down and yelling "Zoom!" everytime someone talked to him about his costume. He won honorable mention at the children's museum last weekend. edited to add: Shae says he's too old to dress up, but I think he'll change his mind last minute and at least wear a mask or zombie makeup! Silas really wants him to dress up.

My mom made my 4 year old a Snow White costume this year. My husband and I got married on Halloween and now have a ridiculous tradition of getting professional photos of our daughter in costume. Our four year old insisted on her baby sister (7 months) being Snow White as well for her first photo. I think the photos will turn out pretty stinking cute having them all matchy despite my hatred of all princess things.
For trick or treating the oldest will be going as Merida from Brave (another princess ack!) and the baby is going to be a tiger. We needed warmer costume options just in case it's raining.

Not the best angle, but here ya' go. I also made an amigurumi bomb and bought a blue ocarina a while back. And you can't really see it, but her treat bag is actually a large brown faux suede drawstring bag. All the older folk who saw her thought she was Robin Hood, which was kind of a bummer...

Wow these costumes are all awesome!
I am making our family 'Duck Walks Up to the Lemonade Stand" costumes today so I'll have to post a pic later. We decided to go to a local community party today that my mom found out about, instead of a parade tomorrow, and I'm so glad cause it looks like Frankenstorm is going to rain everything out from Sun - Thurs!

bekki, that's totally amazing. It reminds me when I was a kid and dressed up as Sailor Something (Galaxy? Milky Way? I made it up). I looked super cool and no one knew what I was, but I felt great.
I was trying to will my sister into dressing her youngest as an ewok but I don't think it's gonna work.

Walter looks great! I'm so impressed you got him to stand with and without the mask. As you can see we had a heck of a time getting Kai to stand still for the pic! (that's why Dad is leaning over and Kai's duck hood is askew) Here's Kai in a dracula outfit for trick-or-treating at the mall today. (lame, I know, but no one goes in the neighborhood here even in a normal year) We really lucked out because I just saw Christie postponed Halloween until next Mon. so now he gets to go twice!
